Given the way certain people on social media act to characters like Mineta and Zenitsu who only have 1% of Happosai's full power I have to wonder about that Personally, I love the pervert trope.
But I expect the show to be toned down like the Urusei Yatsura one was so I'm not expecting full nudity or the more risque stuff.

Oh heck yes!! I've always had the original on my "I'll check it out one day" backburner since the mid 2000s.

Hard pass |
Is there any way here to Hard Pass from seeing any other comments from you? Ranma is legendary; it's like crapping on the 97 Bulls. As an anime newbie, I still remember being disappointed there weren't official CD releases for the english cast songs from the OAV's.

Let's hope Viz or Sentai gets it if there's to be any hope of a decent Blu-Ray release.

Funny you say that, the reason I have 0 problems with Mineta is because every time I saw somebody complaining about him I thought "This guy never meet Happosai".

Heard the rumours about this recently but glad to see it come true.
After the success of Urusei Yatsura, I'm happy about this. Also compared to that, I actually watched the anime and movies of Ranma (Don't know how I feel about the ending of the manga but oh well). However, as a main female lead I would choose ANYYY of Rumiko's other female leads than Akane.
I couldn't stand her back then and now I hope they make her less "uncute" and more bearable, I'll take Lum or Kagome over her any day.

There is definitely some room for improvement on the original - much of the filler was appallingly bad, and some of the animation looked like it was financed with pocket change.
But the first (I think) 18 episodes are near perfect. Like if I was going to teach a class on making animated shows this is one of the shows I'd cite. The writing was fantastic - it helps that the source material was so good, but the writers adapted it perfectly - the pacing was great, the music was so good and fit perfectly, and the animation looked spectacular.
I know they'll have to redo those eps too, but I don't think they can top them.
And Maison Ikkoku has to be on deck. My memory of MI is that it was a great show and story that dragged and didn't need to be 90+ episodes.

Lots of reliable sources are saying it's Mappa since animators were contacted via Twitter to work on it. |
While I don't distrust this, the idea of staff being hired through Twitter by itself isn't indicative of it being made by MAPPA. That is something that a lot of studios do, and has become increasingly more common with the drought of veterans in the industry.

I think it's flat-out unfair that Ranma 1/2 never got a full adaptation even though it ran for so many episodes and OVAs, so I'm tentatively excited about the new anime as long as they promise to cover the manga's last 4 volumes for the first time ever.
I'm very attached to the original seiyuu, though, so if this turns out to be a remake from scratch with an all-new voice cast, I hope it will make up for it by being as lean as David Production's Urusei Yatsura adaptation, and not wasting as many episodes on Happosai.

My money is on Viz Media, since they licensed the original Ranma anime, but I think Netflix could be another good choice to get another romantic comedy anime. But I have a hunch it’s on Viz considering how Netflix can be selective on which anime they want to license for their service (e.g. My Happy Marriage, Delicious in Dungeon) and wether they want to license that anime or just be committed with their anime originals they want to do. Not to mention besides the Ranma ½ anime, Viz also licensed the Inuyasha anime series.
The biggest question mark is once they start doing the English Dub for the new Ranma anime is wether they will use Vancouver, Canada for the new series just like the original anime dub or will it be recorded in Los Angeles with a brand new voice cast in Los Angeles (Studiopolis, Bang Zoom!) over the original Vancouver cast?

I mean my point is the storyboards clearly state that it's Mappa. The production assistants are also obligated to say which studio they are from.

It's more of a case of being the right show at the right time in the western fandom. If it had come over a few decades later, it would have been ignored for one of the better romcoms.

Fun fact: it was censored in LATAM, and quite the clumsy censorship, they literally just cut complete scenes. |
Oh, so they did the same as here in Spain. One chapter had barely a few minutes because Happosai, as usual.
In any case, I think Ranma's (Rumiko's) attitute towards nudity is healthier than many actual mangas or animes. No "Ohh, he saw my panties!", Ranma (girl) or Shampoo would say "yeah I got breasts, two of them, any problem with that?"
Fun fact2: in the 90 a local regional councillor asked for the ban of Ranma because it was "porn" (in fact, she belonged to a leftist party),
