Yashahime is awesome and I'm sure she is liking it herself, considering the art she's drawn for it.

Wait, it kept going after the anime's wet fart of an ending? Just...why?

Because the manga tells it's own story? Why should it stop before finishing?

A lot of people don't seem to realize that the manga version of Yashahime is essentially a re-do of the anime that's actually good. For any InuYasha fans disappointed in how the Yashahime anime turned out, I highly recommend checking out the manga version instead. It's the superior version.

I wanted to like this show, because I liked Inuyasha.

But the family dynamics and actions are so abysmal that I hate most of the characters, and feel truly sorry for Inuyasha and Kagome. So much so, that I would have loved it, if it Yashahime became a 'revenge road' type of anime, with Inuyasha and Kagome making the blood fly, like in 'Kill Bill'.

Especially for Kagome, who lost so much.

I mean to be fair I had no idea there was even a manga version until right now. After how disappointing the anime was, I'm certainly in no rush to explore any other takes on it.

Seriously! I will never for the life of me understand what was going through the minds of the production team. "Hey, we have the beloved cast of this wildly popular international hit... let's have them be totally absent for over 2/3 of the series!" Real big brain move there. Moroha was Best Girl by a country mile, and her interactions with her parents were far and away the highlight of the series. Hell, I got a bit of a lump in my throat when they finally met. There's your series premise right there! But no, instead we focused on Towa failing at nearly everything she tried, and Setsuna being perpetually lame, and their emotionally constipated father with deeply disturbing relationship choices. It all still makes me angry.

Yasahime pissed me off as much as it amassed me.

How can you make a such a long series without the 3 basic parts of a plot (goal, urgency and stakes) while you keep sabotaging any situation that would create said parts?

This thing should be a case of study for posterity.

Because the whole point of Yashahime was to do a "next generation" story with new characters, not just to do more of the same thing that the original series already spent twelve years doing. Takahashi wasn't interested in authorizing another story about the original cast; the only reason this sequel exists is to introduce and explore some new characters.

Yashahime had a lot of problems, but wanting to tell its own story instead of just being a rehash was not one of them.

Well, if the manga is an improvement on the anime, hopefully they can nail the ending better.

Then it should have told it's own story, without Inuyashi and Kagome. Instead, they treated Kagome's loss like a missing letter that the Post Office forgot to deliver. Names should have been taken and the earth scorched behind them. And nobody behaved like normal people. Makes you think that Kagome's parents and friends were replaced by the pod people from Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

My favorite part was how in season 2 they had to photoshop Moroha in an scene from season 1 and act as she was always there for the plot to make sense.

-sigh- It was so easy for the series to be about the girls in the present trying to go back to the past, you don't need to make weird explanations of where is everybody and you can make a run of the mill monster of the week plot with that.

Well yeah, I get all of that...but there's a massive space between " just do more of the same with the original cast" and "completely ignore the original cast's existence for the majority of the series." Like, it was seriously distracting how almost no one in the series is actively curious about the original cast's whereabouts or trying to seek them out, even those who would have all the reason in the world to do so. Instead they wander around in some vague recreation of the original's jewel shard hunt, and when 2/3 of the lead trio is written to be incredibly dull, there's nothing at all to carry the show.

I mean hell, the bit of Boruto I saw managed to effectively keep the original cast in the picture, even if it was frequently to show just how bad some of them were at parenting. Everyone's favorite characters were still around and occasionally got to cut loose, but the focus was still firmly placed on the next generation. And I'd hardly call Boruto a paragon of good writing, so that just shows how inept Yashahime was at handling a similar premise.

And yet wasn’t the complaints about the series about how they weren’t featured enough?
