Seems like a weird move. Like if you're gonna make a new series that's (seemingly, at a glance) very similar to your mega-popular previous series, why not just make more content for your previous series?

LycoReco already has a manga adaptation and light novel spin-off out now, and with a new project for said series already in the works, there's really not much else they can do with it right now.

it's a cheap way to cater what's common and popular nowadays lol.
