It's been pretty amazing watching Larian's success -- they really, really deserve everything they've gotten. Here's hoping the transition to being a proper AAA Studio doesn't change them too much, at least while Swen is still in charge.
Beyond that... goddamn, this is been one hell of a year for games -- and it's not quite over yet! I think 2023 might even beat out the handful of other overstuffed game years (which are only around 3 or 4 total by my count) in terms of sheer volume of top-tier titles.
Hell, this year was so packed that I didn't even notice when FFXVI launched.

I still haven’t gotten around Balders Gate 3 (damn you backlog) but with all the amazing things I’ve heard about it I can’t wait to play, and I agree this has overall been an amazing year for gaming.

Game of the Year for me would definitely be a toss-up between Grisaia: Chronos Rebellion, Anonymous;Code, Ginka, Stella of the End, Warhammer 40k: Boltgun, Starfield, Eternights, Alan Wake II, Ghostpia: Season One, Trepang2, Atomic Heart or Loop8: Summer of Gods.

Yeah, that is what stopped me from getting Baldur's Gate right now. I definitely want to play it, but I just don't have time to fit in something that large right now. I finally got around to playing Tales of Arise a few months ago (2 years after release) only for it to get story DLC a few days ago. Stuff like that has made me a lot more willing to resist the impulse to buy even the most interesting new games because it will either be one more item on the stack, or jump the queue on games that I bought years ago.

Congrats to FFXVI and FFVIIR2 on their well earned awards. Just a day later, both would be nominated for the TGA with FFVIIR2 being nominated for Most Anticipated Game and FFXVI being nominated for Best Narrative, Score and Music, Performance, Role-Playing. The followers in the gaming community have taken notice of VIIR2 and XVI, especially XVI, which had major marketing in June with a dedicated grand event much like what XV had among other things.
