On/at its release on March 4th?
Stores around me did not order any... (didn't check Best Buy yet)
My order at a reputable site has been in pre-order "limbo", for reasons unknown...

Has anyone obtained one?
Where? (if o.k. w/TOS)
If not:
-What's up with this sifgnificant release?

TanX!

The release date of 5cm. per second is on March 11. You're not the only one who didn't get a copy.

I ordered my copy from Amazon on the 3rd. The site has it listed as a March 4th release date, but upon ordering, I was told it would ship on the 10th.

Thank you for the correction, folks! It wasn't until about March 4th that the rel. date queitly changed... Pretty much all retailers had that date.

-March 11th sounds nice, but somebody has to tell Best Buy that, they have March 25th listed & I think they could be the largest US anime retailers.

*import "5 Centimeters" almost ruined by poor engrish subtitles "are that always fun smile me watching makes!"*

Haha, that's golden.

I buy my anime from Best Buy and that release date annoys me. I was looking forward to it last week and, of course, that didn't happen. A 1 week delay didn't bother me too much but Best Buy is the only retailer around here that really stocks a decent selection of anime. So I guess I'll have to wait the extra 2 weeks they have specified or order it. That's a real bummer.

Yep, I feel for ya Keonyn! (of course that "engrish isn't even taken from Makoto's chinese-bootleg-bastardized version --the real grammar is WORSE! LAUGHABLE even, ruining the beautiful poignancy!!)

-You could always go to the New York International Childrens Film Festival and see it this Saturday, and beat the MAN, lol! (I'm going to the COntinental Premiere of Keiich Hara's "Summer Days wIth Coo" Sunday though.)
Seems many festivals have screened it already, but we want to OWN it.

Thanks.

Who wants to bet Best Buy's rel. date is RIGHT?
(private "sellers" claim to have it already...Really!)

*secretly wants to practice spoken "engrish" for comic relief -it's the NEW "kung-fu" (poor-dubbing) of subtitles!*

I'm really hoping the real release date is tomorrow. I've been waiting for this movie since last year. It's so confusing Best Buy's release date is on 25 of March, while in AnimeOnDvD.com has its date release on March 11.

Although one more week isn't frustrating as waiting for months but still I'll be disappointed if the release date is next week. It will be a real bummer if that happens, oh well crossing my fingers.....

March 25th would actually be 2 weeks away. That's quite a gap too, I don't know if Best Buy is playing it safe or what the deal is.

Haha, wow, that bad huh? I definitely would not want to have my first experience with an anime that has has so much promise to be tainted by such a god awful sub.

I did some looking around today at Best Buy and Target and couldn't find a thing. A quick look online at most retailers shows that the ones that had it go available today are showing it as unavailable or backordered, most with a projected arrival date of 1 to 2 weeks. Looks like it'll be a bit yet unfortunately.

God this waiting is really getting on my nerves I can't stand it, I want to watch it now.

@ Keonyn, Are you saying that March 25 isn't sure also? Just to make sure.

Has anyone seen any new ADV releases at Best Buy since they put their titles on hold (aside from Devil May Cry)? I've been wanting to get Pumpkin Scissors vol 3 and 5cm/s, but neither have shown up. I also haven't seen any of the other titles from their list which should have been released by now. At the same time I've seen other new releases including today's release of Appleseed, Witchblade vol. 5, Aquarion set 1, and Speed Grapher box set (good day for FUNi) so there are definitely new products going on the shelf. I'm starting to think they canceled all of their orders and wont get new ADV titles in until the April solicitations come in which means major release gaps. Releasing so many titles so close together might have backfired on them. How is FYE handling this?

Wow. Just WOW!
Who'd thought Shinkai's wonderful tone poem of shorts, would become a retail mystery?!
(perhaps he'll tread in Miyazaki's shoes & do a "Lupin" movie, lol)

-I'm sure we ALL truly appreciate the informative & time-saving reports of the current retail availability situation here folks! (makes me feel like I'm now part of ANN[face-tear])

I'm with ya there with that unfulfillment.
Thank you for poundin' the brick & mortar + online cyber pavements for 65min of slice-of-life bliss, friends!
I started a similar thread at Amazon and it just boils down to patience.

My copy was from an Amazon seller -the one with the primarily sakura/like-wise coloured cover art=BEWARE!
The halarious "engrish" flub-titles await!!
I even watched all of that version... and immediately could not wait to see it PROPER.

But, Ahh...
The rel. date MYSTERY!
*shakes "magic 8-ball"...*
*die comes up through blue-ish liquid:*

--"Best Buy KNOWS!"

(Shame the NYICFF doesn't have multiple showings per day -or I'd see "5 CM" AND "Summer Days" together! I'll be at the closing awards ceremony too. and will report if Shinkai wins!)

Keep on it, fellow ANN board-journalists.
(perhaps contacting some highly-rated sellers will reveal clues...)

Thanks.

Mike

Sup emerje.
Nice way to solve the other "ADV" mystery here too, huh?
You must be getting quite concerned. We all have right to be.(Didja read Play magazine Editor Dave Halverson's rant and solution? I'll post it!)

I'll gladly, personally check out both f.y.e and Saturday Matinee (they always have a big wall of anime) for ya! Very Happy
Hope ya get to the bottom of it.

-Seems ironic Makoto Shinkai's themes of distance, time & circumstance rings true of obtaining his 3rd U.S. release, lol...
(I'l still contact them sellers, don't worry!)
