Let's face it, any video game company not named NIntendo is practically dead outside Japan.

Sorry, but don't you mean inside of Japan? Because many Japanese game developers are concentrating their efforts in making games that appeal to Western gamers. Japanese games like Resident Evil, Final Fantasy, Elden Ring, Tekken, among others have bigger sales in markets like the USA and Europe than in their home country.
It's true that Nintendo has dominated the Japanese charts for quite a while, very few third-parties have managed to stay in the weekly rankings, one of the few exceptions has been Konami with games like Momotaro and eBaseball. I wonder if the situation in Japan will change next year with the release of Resident Evil 4 Remake and Final Fantasy XVI.

If I did a poor job at constructing my statement, I sincerely apologize. What I meant is that Nintendo has dominated the Japanese landscape for years and has the benefit of producing video game consoles, while the vast majority of Japanese video game developers have to make video games that can be played in at least 2 consoles.

Microsoft is and has always been an American company while Sony has moved its entire entertainment division to America. Microsoft recently bought Activision-Blizzard and Sony just bought Bungie. Nintendo has stayed relatively the same in these past few years and I wouldn't be surprised if it bought a Japanese video game developer, like Capcom or Konami. At the end of the day, money outweighs everything else.

Maybe things will change in the next year, maybe they wont. As Colt from Deathloop stated, "life is full of maybes." We live in a crazy world. We live in crazy times. Anything can happen.

I genuinely can't really recall that last big non-Switch game worth playing. Final Fantasy 7R? Playstation is too western focused these days and Xbox never did well in Japan.

I don't think any of those developers would be interested in being acquired by Nintendo, and to be honest Nintendo doesn't need to acquire a major developer either. Unlike MS and Sony, Nintendo's consoles like the DS and the Switch managed to sell a lot of software developed in-house and they practically have al genres covered (eg.: Mario Kart for racing, Smash Bros. for fighting, Splatoon for shooters, Pokémon/Xenoblade/Fire Emblem for RPGs, etc.) so they don't seem worried in losing third-party support. Some third-party developers like Capcom managed to find success on the Switch with games like MH: Rise (which sold 7 million units), but very few developers seem willing to take the risk of developing for the Switch because they believe they can't compete with Nintendo's own games.

There is a game released not too long ago called Elden Ring that I certainly consider worth playing.
