I was expecting the music composer to be revealed like with Weathering with You's April 2019 teaser, but looks like no new staff was announced today. The music in the teaser sounds interesting, not exactly like Radwimps but not exactly like Tenmon either. Someone new?

Looks really interesting! The cat creature reminds me of the one from Children Who Chase, though I assume they're not gonna be released since that movie supposedly takes place in the 60s

I think Makoto Shinkai is turning into a 1 trick pony, all this films all deal with water in some way, like all his stories need to have was in them. they are starting to feel very similar, I think its part of the reason I didn't enjoy Weathering With You as much as Your Name.

Your Name did not have much to do with water though.
But gotta admit I am not very much hyped for this one.

You Name did incorporate water both metaphysically (the flow of time) and literally (town flooded from the impact).
Not to mention whole plot device of the Kuchikamisake (Miko Sake), in conjunction with the asteroid, that represented the "river of time" that allowed them to meet each other through time.

I see your point but this is a bit far stretched. Garden of word and Toki no ko did have a lot of water. But here we had just one land flood, it was probably done because its more beautiful to draw then some deserted land. As for sake it's just sake ^^. I mean even humans are composed of 70% water, then would not all movies in the world be about water then ?
As for river of time, is that supposed to be a pun with words like river and flow ? I don't really agree with associating time and water personally.
We had only a bit of rain too in the movie. But don't most movies usually use some rain scenes to get more emotional effect ?

Well it looks like a poor man's Spirited Away and/or a combination of Spirited Away and Weathering With You where a female protagonist had entered into a different world kinda thing with an apocalyptic events.
BTW, if this latest Makoto Shinkai's work would had a chance to make an Oscars nod in the near future then thers's no fat chance to make it and besides, the Oscars are getting more crappy lately after that infamous Will Smith's slap to Chris Rock after he (or actually his wife) had offended Chris Rock's jokes about Jada's baldness and he thinks that she had a next project for a sequel to G.I. Jane in which it's not really offensive to many.

Of course the audience is entitled to read the thematic undercurrents differently and appreciate or disregard as they see fit, but stating this -

... is simply being facetious for the sake of being facetious, which I don't really agree with personally.
Sake could be just sake, that still doesn't mean you're more right in claiming it didn't mean anything than somebody else in claiming it meant something.

My bad, did not have any intention to offense you in any way.
You are right everyone is free to interpret as they fit.
At least the water thematic is less recurrent then all the isekai harem animes or idols ones that still sell a lot. Though comparing a movie and anime is not really good.

It's all good, no offence taken. It's just a movie after all, yet we can be passionate about it, which is also good.
