Trademarking 'ahegao' is like trademarking a smile or a fart. It's way, way, way too generalized to warrant a trademark. Just because it isn't in English shouldn't be enough to come that.

The only thing I can think of was this was approved without any research on the word, especially given this part from the Trademark Electronic Search System.
Quote: | Translations: The wording "Ahegao" has no meaning in a foreign language. |

This trademark needs to be revoked. As mentioned, this would be like trademarking "smile" or "frown". Dumb.

Ignoring how dumb this is...
Fakku getting Fakku'd in 2020 is the single most hilarious thing so far.
Couldn't have happened to a better set of industry "pros".

Just because you dislike a company and product they are offering doesn't mean they are any less of a "pro" then people say from viz or dark horse.
My opinion about them trying to copyright that word might not work. But i am no lawyer and do not specialize in copyright rules and laws.

You are correct, but without legal action to force the PTO to follow it's own rules, it likely won't. Unfortunately, the PTO these days will give a TM (or patent) to about anybody who knows how to pay the "right people" and the Chinese know how and have the money...

Or how both Marvel and D.C. each have trademarks for "super hero" and similar.

I think TexZero hit it right on the head. The elephant in the room is what Fakku was doing with IPs before going "legit". And when you stop and think about it.. YES Fakku getting Fakku'd is pretty funny.

Perhaps it's the nature of the internet or perhaps you misunderstood the use of quotes around "Pros".
This isn't Fakku's first run in with being dealing with trolls or being them. Before being a basically forced into becoming a legitimately run, non-piracy entity they did very unscrupulous things not to disimilar to whats going on now.
So the almost karmic irony here is not lost on me and thus it couldn't have happened to a better set of industry "Pros". Emphasis is on them not being professional about how they handle their own laundry.

Don't care for Fakku, but this is trying to copyright the phrase "orgasm face". It's a biological process, not something you can own. Saying it's untranslatable is misguided, just like saying anime or manga have foreign connotation or denotation. Or more like German load words that describe more complex concepts like zeitgeist or gestalt.
