Alright, so my best friend and I went to the store interested in Gilgamesh for it's seemingly dark nature. We picked up the box set and it called it "sexy and seductive".
...Is this accurate? Those words made us put down the box and not buy it, and we're quite disappointed.
We don't want sexy or seductive. Can anyone out there reassure us or is this series mildly pornographic or something? :/

I bought the first DVD back when it was first released and didn't find it sexy or seductive in a traditional manner. If anything it is sexy and seductive in the same fashion as something like X or Interview with the Vampire. I recently bought the rest of the series at TRSI since it is part of the 25 for $100 deal, but I'm not sure which volumes are still available at this really cheap price at the moment.

there is no sex or seducing at all in the anime, if you are looking what you described you wanted then giligamesh fits well. The ending sucks big time though, I won't spoil it as it would be to big of a spoiler. There is a thinpak out, I would get that, its what I have, shouldn't be to expensive.

I agree there is no sex(that you see), but I wouldn't say there is no seduction. Just perhaps not in the same way that that word is traditionally used. And although there is no "pornographic" elements, I would say there are a few "mature" moments.
Also, I probably know the answer to this, but did the thinpak come with any extras? The singles were pretty well packed with them, and some of them were quite good. My favorite was on volumes 7 where they did a music score only video that goes through all the music used in the anime. It's about 30 minutes.

considering the original set was condensed to 5 disc for the thinpak they probably took them out to save that extra dvd worth of episodes, I wouldn't know since I didn't look though.

Wow, so sex doesn't sell everything?!
I can see how the description fits in a way, but certainly not in a way that would be offending to your sensibilities.
I didn't think the end sucked as bad as some here, I thought over-all the show was very good, so different and pretty (the art style is different from many other shows and I enjoyed the look a lot) that I was able to enjoy despite the slightly odd ending.
I think I need to watch this again soon, I find I blanked the end in my head, so maybe that is why it isn't sticking out as particularly bad.

Doesn't sell to us. Sex disgusts the both of us (no flames please, not here to argue over our unconventional opinions), so it was unfortunate for us to read that descriptoin on a series we were interested in. D:
The art style DOES seem quite different. The lips sort of throw me off (I'm sure I'll get used to them). I looked at some footage of the series, though, and I have a really spontaneous question.
There was a character with dark hair that was sort of long and messy and the character was quite short. Is that a boy or a girl? Maybe I'm just too used to over-effeminate boys, but I swear it looks like a boy to me.

It's a boy, and actually it's not the only one in the anime that can't be distinguished easily...
Anyway, if sex disgust you (although I don't know to which grade), then I wouldn't be so sure this anime fits.
As someone has already written, there are no explicit sex scenes (if I remember correctly, all you actually see is just a kiss in the whole show), but sometimes it feels like sex is working in the background... there are no conventional love stories, but this amount to say that these relationships are more troubled, sad, or even morbid.
It's not so easy to explain clearly this anime's atmosphere. I'd say that:
if you are disgusted by sex only when painted explicitly, then don't worry, there's nothing to see;
if you are disgusted by any hint to sex, and don't like strange kind of relationship, then you may don't want to watch Gilgamesh.
P.S.
I try to do my best writing in English, please be patient if I make mistakes or sound weird.

There is an act where the boy's sister ends up working as a hooker and gets pregnant, but her performing her "duties" are never seen and it isn't until later that it is revealed she is pregnant after a medical examination. That is the highest level of sexuallity this title gets. No worse than an afternoon soap.

Oh, if it's completely offscreen and it's implied then we're fine.
And strange relationships are even more okay with us-- we hate conventional love stories. 8/ Usually we're not fond of love stories in general.
We'll probably pick Gilgamesh up. Thanks, everyone, for all the information!
