And Crunchyroll losing to Funimation continues.

The anime will premiere worldwide in 2021.

Yeah, Funi is available in only 4 countries(soon to only 6 countries). How pathetic.

It can be through other means you know, no need to take a snide tone about it.

Of course, that's how it's being done in most of the world unless you pretend otherwise, but that doesn't mean that's how things should be. Platform-exclusive licensing and regional lockouts should be done away with, pure and simple. And also don't forget about DRM, but I guess that would be asking too much.

I see you’re not counting Funimation’s partners such as Anime Lab in Australia/New Zealand or Wakanim in Europe (though Wakanim isn’t the best since it doesn’t provide English subtitles in all the countries they stream in). I do find it weird though Funimation only streaming in two Latin American countries. They do realize people outside Mexico and Brazil watch anime too, right?

And all of my excitement is immediately thrown out the window with this
news post. I was half expecting this to be going exclusively to Netflix.

Funimation doesn't reach a broader audience in the same vein as
Netflix does. Their record of dubbed anime dubs, IMO, is not good.

I would guess that they will expand to other countries in the future. They probably want to work out any bugs before expanding further. Its also a good way to spread out people signing up.

Swapping out the fliphones is standing out to me more than it should. Smartphones really just don't look all that cool, huh. You can't dramatically flip open or slam shut a smartphone...

Either way, I would've never expected a game from so long ago to get an anime but I'm so excited! Trailer looks great.

They did say simultaneous worldwide release, so it wouldn't be Netflix anyway.

Maybe people should pester Wakanim to add English subtitles instead of demanding Funimation serve the entire planet every time they announce a new license?

They're probably my favorite dubbing studio next to NYVPost (its hard to compare the two since their projects and level of output are so different), but I'm super curious which ADR director will get it.

I also have way more faith in them to get at least some returning voice actors from the game vs any LA studio (Bang Zoom/Studiopolis/VSI/Spliced Bread, etc...) where they usually don't seem to care as much.

I think Wakanim won't add English subs in Russian, French and German versions. I prefer Funi, perhaps.

Ignoring your generalization of Funimation dubs, do you want the anime to take 5 months to come out after the Japanese airing? Because that's what would happen.

Unless it's one of the Netflix originals.

I’m actually curious to see if they’ll go full union and get the original actors, since most of them don’t do anime or have moved on from it.
