Don't we have enough Hollywood time travel movies?

Indeed, another test of the idea that anything can be done well. And I hope they succeed.
Personally, I hope they have the nerve and wit to write out some of the less needed female characters, ones that were only in the anime because they had been in the game and the anime crew felt they couldn't leave them out because it would make the game's fans mad.
I liked the anime, but I think it could have been tightened up by just leaving out two or three "gotta catch all these girls" episodes in the middle. Those eps just did not make sense to me until somebody, I think in an ANNCast, explained why those eps existed.

It’s certainly less effects heavy than some other concepts, strong central cast, all that fun stuff, but still. I remain thoroughly unconvinced they can do it well.
Oh, Skydance! Those clowns. They also promised a live action Sword Art Online that seems confined to Development Hell.

Steins Gate could actually work as a live action series, it certainly handled it's time travel plot a lot more better than other live action sci fi shows with time travel as a theme.
I am stepping into with a cautious optimism

This is going to be a shitshow that will butcher another well known Japanese properity. Seems Hollywood hasn't learned their lesson with the Scarlet in the Shell flop.

This could be very interesting. The only sticking point I see here is how intrinsically interlaced the story is with Akihabara, but beyond that this is one that could be seen as highly adaptable compared to other anime works. That said, Hollywood has been very iffy of late, and looking over Skydance's resume it is very hit and miss. While I admit I have some personal biases (anyone else besides Asami Imai or Trina Nishimura portraying Kurisu feels wrong), I do wonder if they could really do the show justice.

Steins;Gate is entirely dependent on its roots in otaku culture. Even the anime's dub messed that up by replacing all the anime and otaku references with Star Trek, Portal, and Dr. Who references. An actual Hollywood movie has no chance.

If the main character doesn't act like an over the top scientist who loves Dr. Pepper and doesn't say "I am mad scientist, it's so cool, sunavabitch" then i'll be disappointed

It absolutely could work. It absolutely won't. But it could.

But will the Hollywood version feature the “Tuturuuu”? If not, that’s a deal breaker guys.
