It almost hurts to think a character with such an unappealing past design also turned out to be as likable as this trailer made him out to be. There's no way he wouldn't have been. Would people have been able to see past it if the studio stuck with their guts? (Prob'ly not, but still...
 )

This looks FAR, FAR better than the initial trailer. I now actually want to see this movie. I mean, I lowkey wanted to because of Jim Carrey, but if Sonic's design remained the same or was progressively worse upon the redesign, I would've passed. But now I'm actually intrigued and may be considering seeing it in theaters, barring any unexpected issues come release time.

Now I ACTUALLY want to see it. Bonus points for using Blitzkrieg Bop instead of Gangsta's Paradise. Punk rock works much better for Sonic than rap.

It seems to me that SEGA actually knocked some sense into Paramount. It wouldn't surprise me, especially since both companies were both once owned by Gulf+Western. I really want to see this movie now.

Now that Sonic looks better, the movie's real problem presents itself: It's yet another isekai story done in the style of Super Mario Brothers the Movie. "Here's my planet, it looks like the game. But never mind that, here's us copying Ryan Reynolds whole career because he copied us first. In your world because that's what you want to see in a video game adaptation."
It's a quipping Flash in blue fur in a buddy road trip film. The first part is a little too "superhero with super powers" for Sonic while the rest is not The Movie I would have expected. I may not know a lot about Sonic but I know it should be Sonic and at the very least Tails. |

Gotta admit, Sonic looks way better now, but I still wonder about the plot. We probably aren't going to see any of Sonic's friends, but Carrey looks funny as Robotnik/Eggman.
Also, Sonic's actor sounds good, I know he isn't his current voice actor in the video games, but you got lucky, here in Latin America Sonic is going to be voiced by a YouTuber, not even a gaming YouTuber, he mostly does video blogs about traveling. |

Yeah, they probably did.
Both of those sound pretty likely.
Either Tails (and/or Sonic's other friends) will make an unexpected cameo, or the writers thought that Tails and Sonic's other friends somehow wouldn't be a good fit for the movie's buddy-oriented storyline between Sonic and the cop.
Is that a bad thing? |
