I like Tifa's redesign for the most part, but I reeeeeally am not a fan of that skirt. I think it's too flouncy; while it leans harder into the "girl next door" aspect of Tifa, I think it looks very schoolgirl when paired with those tights. I think I would've preferred either shorter tights or swap it out with a miniskirt and leave the tights as is. It just feels a little too girlish for me as is.
EDIT: Also, this is just a theory for now, but the way that they were talking about the game in terms of data size rather than length or world size makes me think that this Remake is going to be more like an episodic collection of moments--moments that cover the important story beats and let you roam around a few levels, but that ultimately don't let you explore the world or travel freely. I hope I'm wrong, but that's definitely the impression I'm getting: a streamlined version of the FF7 story with some neat combat sprinkled in between all the fancy cutscenes and dungeon wandering. |

At least we can continue appreciate the irony that Sephiroth, despite the cast change, is still being played by Superman. |

Meh, I actually think Tifa's redesign actually makes her look sexier, but that's just me I suppose.

I like Tifa's remake design and while it is a bit of a compromise it is better than what I expected considering how much they delayed her reveal. The combination of skirt and shorts was a reasonable choice since it balances sexy with keeping the remake suitable for kids. Overall the trailer looked good.

Yeah I'm almost certain it was done to make her outfit look more visually appealing rather than bland hence the stockings. |

Tifa is my FF girl, so I'm looking forward to this.

Wow dude just wow, it isn't like the PS One days anymore where major details had to be exaggerated and left out due do graphic limitations making the characters look like a bricks. That said I think she does look too skinny to be the power house brawler she's suppose to be. |

I doubt they could find a model who could fit that original look, unless it was a porn actress.

Nah, nothing to do with PS limitations. They use the exact same design in the Dissidia games. |

To those people saying Square Enix caved in to whoever, I present you with the following question: Have you played any of the numerous sequels/prequel games for FF7 like Crisis Core, Dirge of Cerberus, or Before Crisis? Have you seen Advent Children, Last Order, or any of the other supplemental media? Because Square Enix has been retconning and changing FF7 for decades now. The series got a lot more dreary, depressing, and serious since the original game. For example, Cait Sith completely lost his moogle body in his appearance in both Advent Children and Dirge of Cerberus. Tifa was redesigned in those games as well. The closest thing to comedy I remember in Dirge of Cerberus was Reeve trolling Vincent with a fake robot body double of his, otherwise its a serious game starring an brooding vampire guy with a gun.
No, this is really just a continuation of Square's directional changes they've been making for all the FF7 sequels and prequels since they started doing so in the early 2000s. They're now making a FF7 that fits more in line with Advent Children, Crisis Core, and Dirge of Cerberus, and that means more realistic proportions for the characters and less goofball comedy. Not saying I like it, but it's clear what they're doing with this remake. Just to ease the fears of some people: Square-Enix announced a Seiken Densetsu 3 (Trials of Mana) remake today, and Lise and Angela still have their iconic skimpy costumes from those games 100% identical to the original. In fact, the argument could be made they are arguably more skimpy since they're 3D models now and you can see tons of sideboob, upskirt, buttcheek, and whatnot. Square Enix is clearly not bowing down to social pressures for anyone. It's just they decided FF7 is now a serious, brooding universe. |

As someone who never played the original FF7 in its heyday, I definitely think opting for a more serious tone is actually a better choice. I didn't *mind* most of the silly bits I saw in the story, but I felt like they really clashed with the overall tone of "we are actual terrorists who plant bombs and probably kill civilians", not to mention the rest of the game dealing with PTSD and all that other fun stuff. Which isn't to say you can't make funny and dark work (hello NieR franchise!), but to me, FF7's story always felt like two tonally different games stitched together into one story. |

Lol! Apparently Kitase doesn't know yet how many parts this things will be...
https://twitter.com/jasonschreier/status/1138538061686378496 The rest of the chapters will be on PS5 won't it...?
Well, yeah it's not an exact comparison. But what I was trying to get at is that the gameplay/camera changes will necessitate a lot more work and adding in new details compared to the fixed/pre-rendered backgrounds and perspectives of the original PSOne games. Now both RE2 and FF7R are fully 3D realized worlds, so that would naturally come with bigger expectations. While RE2 was a much smaller affair, there were still lots of new locations and assets made, and scenes redone, and even the inclusion of al new material in reimagined scanarios. I'm assuming that Midgar in FF7 remake will be very large. I'm tempted to say Open World, and I don't think we'd be too far off from that, though I still have a feeling that there will be hubbed areas. I don't know how Kingdom Hearts 3 worked out, but I imagine that they are taking notes in terms of scale from FFXV. I imagine some plot points from the latter portions of the original game, even side content will be brought forward such that they take place in Midgar, and will act as set-ups for part 2 where they'll pay off. Also I have a suspicion that the 'intro' we are seeing, and the part with the attack on the HQ and the Red Scorpion tank from the demo, which occurs practically at the start of the original, might even take place midway, or a little later after the opening. So we'd probably get an all new introduction to ease us into the tutorials. And I also suspect that there will be some all new major plot just made for the Midgar chapter that will bookend the game. So that Part 1 feels like a complete title on its own that wraps up, but still whets our appetite for the remainder of the original game's events to come. |

I mean the breast size reduction is whatever but I think she should be more toned/muscular seeing as how she's a brawler.
More disappointed in the total cast change though while the Japanese cast stays the same. Reminds me of MGSV where they wanted star power in the English version but were fine with keeping Akio Ohtsuka in the Japanese. Just seems like they're spiting long time fans to attract new ones. |
