Because I can't judge the merits of AoT Season 3 until roughly three episodes in, this is so far the series with the most impressive debut of the season for me. And it's a huge surprise, considering I was turned off by the synopsis before the season thinking that it's merely another CGDCT show. The staff list made me picked up the show: Kishi Seiji worked on some of the funniest shows in the industry, and Kakihara Yuuko, for all the flak she received on Digimon Tri, was instrumental in creating some of the best episodes of Aikatsu, so it would be interesting to see how the two work together.

And it paid off - Episode 1 was, dare I say, one of the funniest openers I've EVER seen, and the strong momentum continued into the later episodes. Two of the twelve skits shown thus far hasn't been that great, but the rest were pure comedic gold.

Two reasons contributed to the success of the show, in my opinion. First, the script worked really well with the general direction of the show, Kakihara has an excellent understanding of comedic timing, and the creative art style as well as soundtrack served to amplify the merits of the script. Second, the main cast is terrific: for newcomer seiyuus, the main cast was fantastic in breathing life into the characters. Hanako's seiyuu is one that I must praise - she knows her character entirely, and understands the different kinds of acting required for different moods.

All in all, I must say that Asobi Asobase has been a great pleasure to watch so far. Hope that it goes on to do well.

Enjoying this show a lot. I would love to see the manga get licensed over here too but I don't know how likely that is.

I don't really have much to comment about. The show is simply lots of fun. I didn't really like how gross a couple of segments on episode 3 are but that doesn't has to speak for the series as a whole

The opening for this show is one of the most misleading OPs I’ve ever come across. I’m aware that it’s intentional, but after the first episode, “Lies. All of it,” will be all that I will be thinking to myself every time I see it. Still, it’s quite a hilarious show and is one of my most favorite shows of the season so far. The Detective Conan reference at the end of the first episode had me in stitches. Laughing

For me, it's a toss-up between Asobi and Chio's for my favorite comedy this season. Both of them excel in their own unique brand of humor.

For as mean as this show can be to its characters, I think it has a strange sort of affection for them. You can see this in the reveals that everybody else in the school is also a weirdo, from the "compassionate" student council president who is secretly sadistic to the equally intense shogi club president.

I like that aspect of the show as well. We are meant to have some sympathy for the characters. I wonder about the president though. Is she really sadistic or just a really really lousy communicator?

She never struck me as sadistic. For me it was very clear she is just a poor communicator

The council president... it may be being hinted that she has a split personality. The timid girl who wants to do a good job and be seen in a good light, and the sadistic frightening girl that comes out to convince others to obey her and do what is wanted/needed. In other words, "that girl" who made her supporting speech that got her elected with the terrifying veiled threat to the student body (and she says she "hasn't seen since") was her, she just doesn't realize it.

A very good point. But isn't it weird that the other girls don't realize this? Kasumi, who feared for her life, thought the threatening girl was the vice president -- or did I miss something?

Well, I suspect this will be somewhat clarified.

I did not even think of that, while I had been thinking the existence of that girl was strange, in why she would have no role. Kind of makes it funnier now to consider they may have been the same person.

“Something like a goblin x dwarf?”
“What kind of nasty trash is that?!”

Man, I was dying after that! I’m never ready for this show, dude. Laughing Laughing Laughing

I watched two episode of Asobi and one episode of Chio, and it not funny at all. I rate them D at most

I might just watch episode 4 of Asobi only just to see if it is as good as this review claims. I personally don't find these kinds of comedy entertaining. A good comedy for me is something like prison school, which has not only funnier comedy but also has plot/romance, like the character trying to get out of prison to see the girl friend, not just episodic series with no story/plot at all

Also, JOJO and Overlord has better comedy than Asobi, even though I don't watch them for comedy

I lost it after she said that and he turned the screws by saying "Gobdwarf" under his breath Laughing

This was a pretty fun episode. The teacher knowing all about the Lords of Pastimers raises many questions about that teacher, her school, and how's she friends with an otaku teacher.

The biggest hit I had was with goblin x dwarf, which felt perfectly executed after raising slightly into BL, the mention of light fantasy, which HP fits into, and then gobdwarf. That feels so bizarre, maybe strangely possible, but also so specific that it must be very particular to his friend's niece, but somehow he found out about it.
