Cancer claims its second member of the Medabots voice cast. Mr. Referee is a beloved character. Thanks for bringing a smile to a lot of faces, Denis.

We lost another dub actor from the DiC dub of Sailor Moon. His performance as Kunzite was damn powerful, as well as Silver Samurai and Iceman in the early 90s X-Men show. I liked the strength and confidence he put into his roles. Mr. Referee was another brilliant performance of his. Rest in peace, Mr. Akiyama. You and Kirsten Bishop were the perfect duo as Kunzite and Zoicite.

This sucks.
 We’ve lost so many original Sailor Moon dub voice actors in the last few years. First Kirsten Bishop (Zoycite, Emerald, Kaoriknight, Tellu, Queen Badiyanu), then Susan Aceron (Sailor Pluto in the S season), then Chris Wiggins (narrator in ep. 1 prologue), and now Denis (I believe Kunzite/Malachite was his only role), most of them young too.
Kunzite's Japanese actor (Kazuyuki Sogabe) also died young (age 58) of cancer.

Whatever Pixels' faults were as a film overall, Denis Akiyama was amusing as Pac-Man creator Toru Iwatani. R.I.P.
(Incidentally, Pixels is often used as the object example of "films that bombed domestically but made back their money overseas".) |

I heard this from a fan group earlier and it hasn't gotten any easier. His performance as Malachite is one of my favorite original Dub voices, especially his chemistry with one of my tied-for-first Dub ladies. I know he wasn't as well known as other Canadian voice actors, even to me, but it's still painful to see another of the old guard go down.

|
Kunzite/Malachite was always one of my favorite of the season one villains and I really enjoyed Denis Akiyama's performance as Malachite. He put a lot of energy into the part and was one of the best English voice artists from the DiC dub so it's sad to hear he passed away.
