Too bad about this honestly. Must've been caused by some disgruntled Idolmasters fans because Love Live is inherently better as a franchise. Hope they would caught the culprits soon.

In the year of two thousand and eighteen, the liturgy of anime fandom has grown to include such deeds as defacing public property to express a preference amongst an idol group. I would have thought that becoming associated with sewage would be ample denigration already.

I thought the video making the rounds of the LL FB groups (and likely other social media services that I'm not on) of the LLer being indignant over someone seemingly purposely walking over You's face on the manhole cover and then when he's chasing that guy another guy coming up behind and purposefully scratching at You's face with one of those circular multi cyalume holders was just a joke, but apparently not if it's led to something like this. Spray painting over manhole covers like that is more than just random scratching at it...
Hope these manhole covers come back sometime in the future. |

So, the scratching video you're talking about might have been a joke. It hasn't come out that that group went back and actually scratched the manhole cover. However, the cover was scratched, but it might have been by different people.

Why the assumption that it was fan(s) of Idolm@ster? Is there some evidence I’m not seeing that points to the culprit having such motives? If not, there could be any number of other motivations, including disliking particular characters from the franchise (or Sunshine in general compared to the original), or just straight up trolling. As a fan of both franchises, I don’t think it is helpful to assume it was done by fans of another franchise, unless you have evidence to the contrary. |

@John Hayabusa I was asking if there is any indication that the vandalism described in the article was motivated by fan(s) of another franchise, not your speculation about how fans on one franchise feel about this franchise and why, speculation that I disagree with as a fan of both franchises.

Exactly, don't envenom this Love live- Imas war even more, both of them are good. Most vandalism case in japan toward idol goods/image are made and claimed by people who simply hate idol fans in the whole not just because they are Imas or Love live fans, even vandalism toward Aikatsu image is a thing and recently more and more toward boys idol goods . All these vandalism case are really becoming ridiculous, i pity their pathetic and petty mindset, don't they know how much the idol market is beneficial for their country ? ... |

I just can't fathom why in a country with relatively little vandalism some people would deface something associated with a particular franchise.
When I visited Izu-Nagaoka in August 2017 the Love Live fans were well behaved. |

I bet it's the waifu wars. Funny to think somebody who lives near Numazu has such strong opinions on which Sunshine girl is best.
