I know this was a special case as Kyoto Animation was able to finish episodes early enough for them to be dubbed, but Netflix better not pull something like this again.

Well, it's good that I didn't have to wait another 3 months or whatever, but honestly would've been better just to release the episodes weekly like everyone else did. It's just been the best way to simulcast anime.
Question to U.S. peeps: Are any of you going to watch Violet Evergarden now that it's on Netflix, or did you watch it through other means?

Unfortunately, you know they will. After all Binge watching is one of US Netflix’s selling points. Thus even if other regions enjoy same day simulcasting, we might have to wait until it finishes airing. At least in this case, we don’t have to wait that long.

Fortunately for me, the biggest anime streaming site in China Bilibili (aka China’s crunchyroll) brought Violet’s exclusive streaming rights from Netflix (since Netflix isn’t available in China), so I just use VPN ( yeah, that’s the illegal part) to watch their ultra high quality Chinese subs in 1080P HD weekly, it’s glorious.

It was a very well animated and enjoyable series. I'm glad all US Netflix users get to finally enjoy it.

3 months too late, sorry Netflix. Shouldn't treat your US customers like 2nd rate citizens

I pirated the first 11 episodes, but I will watch the last 3 on Netflix today.

I just watched the first episode this morning. While I would have liked if they had simulcast it in the US as well, it wasn’t too bad to wait. It is of a high enough visual quality show that I wanted to watch it on my TV, and since it was only three months, I thought I’d rather wait than go through the hassle of trying to put it on my TV through less than legitimate means. Plus I could see what to expect quality wise episode to episode since it got a weekly review here.

I don't like to watch too many shows weekly so I always hold back some of the shows I want to see until they're finished airing. This made the decision on Violet Evergarden easy for me.

Yes to both questions for me. I wasn't patient enough to wait for Netflix, but now that it's available, I intend to start a Netflix account and give VE some official traffic.

Watched it through other means. If a company is going to deliberately make my experience worse for no other reason than their own ignorance, they don't deserve my support. Of course if I'm recommending it to others who haven't seen it, I'll let them know it's on Netflix.

1 left for me, but I remember seeing a post somewhere online comparing the Netflix subs and the fansub, and people were saying how the Netflix translation was bad. I'd have to find it again. I'll stick to fansubs when possible for these.

If there could be ever be a legal, moral or ethical justification for anime piracy, I think a case like this would be that. That is, where Netflix will release the dubbed version to the U.S. months after the initial Japanese premiere date. While I do prefer the weekly streaming route for simulcasts, at least shows like "A.I.CO." had the dubbed epi. get released the same time as the subbed epi.
