Can someone please explain the virtual idol to me?
Is she made by one person, who uploads videos to youtube, and some program does the expressions/movements/voice? Is there not a voice actor for her? Is it a team or company or just some guy?

From what I learned, I believe it is one person making the videos, but their fame might mean they have a team now? They use a face tracking program that is cheap to get and used by other productions beforehand, but not for a YouTube blog channel. I believe the real AI chan is a girl? There are knock offs that are guys using voice modulators, but I think AI chan is an actual girl.

Actually, not much is known about the people behind Kizuna Ai. We don't even know if it's one person or a team. We do know that she's made using some kind of Kinect-like motion capture camera, and there's a clip online of what is most likely her voice actress's real voice, but beyond that, we really don't know. She just showed up on YouTube one day to start an ongoing phenomenon.

Well, I'll give it to 'em, it's stunt casting that works. Probably a show I wouldn't watch otherwise but Ai-chan being involved makes me want to check it out.
