Picked up The Demon Prince of Momochi House Vol. 11 and Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card Vol. 2 from Barnes and Noble today. Also got extremely lucky and found this xxxHolic bag at Goodwill; it was basically brand new and clean and only $4.

It’s been many years since I bought a Studio Ghibli film. Found a Blu-ray copy of Spirited Away on eBay for $28! I’m so close to having all of them...I just need The Castle of Cagliostro, The Wind Rises, When Marnie Was There, and The Tale of Princess Kaguya. It’s going to happen this year I guarantee it!
BTW the seller has copies of Only Yesterday and Princess Mononoke for the same price. Good deal if anyone collects the Japanese versions.
That is a great anime. I’d really like to see a BD box happen one day. |

It only cost me $24 to get. It was $30, but E-Bay had a discount offer for me that I took advantage of where I could get 20% off any purchase I made that was $25 or more. |

That's a good deal for it these days. I myself picked up the bargain bundle of it from RS while that was still plentiful. Definitely one of those series Diskotek should get their hands on. Oh and I recently bought Diskotek's Beautiful Dreamer BD. Here I thought Patlabor 2 was Oshii at his rawest of "storytelling through sound and vision" but UY was so pure, I had to take a break midway through it to catch my breath. And to think the guy's mostly known for Ghost in the Shell... |

I got an unopened Princess Jellyfish on bluray from Ebay. My bid of ~40 dollars was winning for almost the entire auction. Then at the last 10 minutes, someone kept bidding in 2 dollar increments, trying to out bid me. I still won the auction at 68 dollars, but didn't get it for quite the steal I was hoping for. Still cheaper than most other places. Amazon has it for about 160.
edit: wow, I managed to buy both dvd volumes of Birdy the Mighty ova off of Ebay for 80 dollars. The first volume is still easily available, its the 2nd volume that I could never find. Its been long out of print, and looking at barcodable, the 2nd volume last sold for over 250 used. |

I NEED 'dat Re:Zero LE part 1! Pre-ordered that sucker! Seems I only buy a few anime series a year at this point, haven't done many blind buys lately (not on anime, at least). My current other "planned anime purchases" for the year are currently Legend of the Galactic Heroes (whatever LEs come out, I will need those), Cyborg 009, Digimon movies, and whenever part 2 of Re:Zero comes out, so that's not too bad I guess (unless Land of the Lustrous comes out on bluray this year, then I may get that one, too). Not sure wtf I am going to do with a pillowcase though, lol, but I am glad to see some more unique bonus items coming out these days (though I do like my art books, which this also has!)
But I also wanted a few Vertical manga, so I also ordered Immortal Hounds 5, 6 Moteki 1 I recently read 1-4 that I got super cheap at a con for Immortal Hounds, and I quite liked it. It's almost like Ajin, but in reverse (where being able to come back to life is "normal" and actually dying when you're shot in the head is the abnormal), but unlike Ajin, you can infect others with non-immortality, creating much of the conflict in the series. I would definitely suggest it for Ajin fans. And I'm a Yuri on Ice fan, so Moteki is a must! I'll get Again! too, when I can. |

Some trips to the Naka-Kon dealers' room landed some rare and out-of-print titles:
Puni Puni Poemy Fancy Lala Complete Collection Kurogane Communication DVD Collection Kannagi Complete Collection Shout-outs to Otaku Joe's, who had the first three listed above and many other older and extremely scarce shows, including various Aniplex properties that we're never going to see here again, the Scryed* "trapezoid" box, Paranoia Agent, AnimEigo's SDF Macross, and the 2nd quarter of Kodocha. Their prices on OOP items weren't cheap, though I was even tempted enough to buy the Amazing Nurse Nanako collection (with Bailey box!) for $75, but it was gone on Sunday morning. They also had Melody of Oblivion, with the artbox, though I didn't check the price as I'd picked up the bundle from RSA back in 2013. I imagine that its availability for legal streaming on CR has probably tempered the demand for secondary-market discs. I agree that it'd be nice to see Melody of Oblivion get re-released here, though if BDs aren't possible, maybe we could at least get an improved DVD release instead of the Kadokawa Composite Anti-Reverse-Importation Special that Geneon got stuck with. Though with current practices, we'd likely get 6 eps per disc instead of 4, which can cause other kinds of video problems. Maybe Nozomi would do a 5-disc, 5/5/5/5/4 release, if they decided to work off the Utena connections and re-license it... *Which I suppose we still have to consider OOP until Sentai/Sunrise finally manage to get it re-released. |
