I feel like my expectations are skewed because I'm usually looking at US releases with like 50 theaters or less, but this seems quite good, really.
I didn't actually like the movie that much, but if it comes to my local theater during the wider release, I would probably see it again.

I doubt the film will get a wider release.
It's NOT Fate/Heaven's Feel. That film did VERY well and sold out the initial play dates which is why it got expanded. Fate's a very big franchise, complaints about the pricing of the home video releases aside...
Honestly, they sold maybe 40-some percent of the seats in the theater I saw Mary and the Witch's Flower in and it was NOT the biggest screening room they had, either. It makes me wonder about how packed the other theaters showing it that day were. I know the theater I saw Fate/Heaven's Feel in was MUCH bigger and there were more people watching that film.
The next time Witch's Flower will show will either be at a film festival or when everybody's able to rent it digitally or buy the Blu ray/DVD releases.
I personally thought the film was okay. I'm not sure it was THAT special -- it was okay.
It definitely had the feel of a non-Miyazaki Ghibli film but I think I liked When Marnie Was There better. The latter film was directed by the same guy who did Mary and the Witch's Flower and The Secret of Arriety.

I thought it was already confirmed to be happening. But maybe I misread. Fathom Events had their ads for it showing in all of the normal theaters anyway.

This was shown in over 500 theaters, Heaven's Feel was shown in like 35? When did it get additional showings? I didn't see that and/or there were none near me.
Anyway, not sure that's a fair comparison.

My theater was full, and the other theaters and showing in my area were all sold out when I bought my tickets.

Just wanted to say at my local theater the first showing sold out so they opened up a second showing an hour after the first and that sold out too. (This is in St. Louis, Missouri)

Probably had about 20 people on Sunday afternoon in the theater I saw it in, which is our town's second-run / arthouse theater. Not bad.

More people showed up than I thought would where I live so that was a pleasant surprise. As a side note I'll say that I didn't check who did the dub beforehand, but I immediately recognized Dr. Dee as Professor Horace Slughorn (Jim Broadbent).

It lasted only a week at my theater. I was actually planing to go tomorrow but they didn't even wait for Friday to make the switch. Fathom's opening night and six nights of showings- that's all folk's.
