Wow. As someone who has lost long-time friends to lung disease this is both heartbreaking and genuinely shocking. Prayers for him, Greg, and the rest of their family.

Well, I'll gladly donate simply because he was such a great Freeza.

I would never wish bad fortune upon anyone but he admittedly has been a life long smoker so his COPD is the product of his own doing. I do hope you gets the treatment he needs tho. This all stinks either way. I really do enjoy his Frieza.

It could be from his smoking or it might not be. I just. I just gave $6 (includes a $1 tip). Such pledging is also a way of saying thank for his hard work in this industry.

my dad hasn't smoked since before he met my mom and he has COPD, meanwhile my friend's mom still smokes and has since she was a teen and she doesn't have it. smoking and/or the length of time one has been smoking are only one possible cause for it and not a definitive factor for its development. yes, it's statistically likely that his smoking is a factor in it, but there's also a possibility it's not.
that said, times like this I wish I was healthy enough to work enough to have spare money. I'd donate in a heartbeat if I had the cash to spare.

Although I’m not as familiar with the English dub industry as I used to be when I first watched anime, I’m well aware of Chris Ayers’ contributions and hope he pulls through. I remember when Chuck Huber needed financial help after a heart attack I believe, but this sounds much worse.

This is awful. I'm glad he at least had some insurance, and I hope someone can help him manage these bills and help him apply for whatever benefits he's eligible for. Chronic, (hopefully not) terminal illnesses are hard enough to deal with without worrying about medical bills.

Smoking is an addiction that in some people's experience is harder to quit than alcohol or even illegal drugs. As frustrating as it is to watch a loved one suffer from potentially self-afflicted illnesses from smoking, it helps to remember that addiction is in itself a disease, and gain some sympathy towards those who struggle with it despite knowing how bad it is for them.

This is depressing. All I can do is sent my best wishes (college takes most of my money). My heart goes out to the Ayres family, and Chris I hope you have a smooth recovery.

He's one of those actors I never notice is in a dub, but remember him doing a good job when I look up who he voiced. Unlike his brother who is more of a lead character, Chris is a great support and minor character actor.

I am under the impression that he probably chained smoked, of course no disrespect, he still doesn't deserve it.

It is possible that his COPD was caused by smoking (I don't know how you would be able to know this unless you had access to his medical records); however, you really can't put the blame on the addict for their addiction.

Very sorry to hear about this. I was fortunate enough to meet Chris at an Anime North signing event some years back. He couldn't have been friendlier or funnier. I wish him the best.
