Good for the producers, who in the future can take risks and start their own animation company, just like Aniplex and Bandai did. But bad for animators, who will not even see the color of this money.

They're going to have some tough quarters in the future as Shin Godzilla and Your Name. aren't things you can replicate.

Nice to see some sales numbers. While the "Sakura Quest" series tanked, I am happy that Toho was involved in making what I consider to be the currently best 2017 anime.

Toho does a lot more than you people might think. In Japan, the production companies are rightfully the faces of the products they release (*cough* Kadokawa and Kemono Friends anime *cough*), instead of the countless relatively low-profile animation studios people in the West seem to fetishize. Of course, this excludes subsidiaries and close-knit ones like Kyoto Animation and Shaft, which stand out on their own right.

I feel like TOHO will now forever be putty in Shinkai's hands after everything「君の名は」achieved.
