This makes me really want to watch Heybot now, and also show this conversation of yours to all of my friends and family.

I wonder how similar Heybot is to Ai-Mai-Mi (especially in its later seasons) which I rarely understood but often found funny. Guess I'll have to find out for myself.

The world is not beautiful. Therefore it is.

The same appears to hold for Heybot.

All I can say about Heybot is it was a trip. I'm almost kinda sad it's over because now I don't have a mindless stupid comedy show to look forward to every week.

Well, I lasted 8:22 minutes into the first episode. Nope. I can't conceive of watching 50 episodes of this drivel.

I've seen about 35 episodes so far. The show's alright and I watch it whenever I want some mindless fun.

I wonder if Imochin-chin is a real product. Heybot! airs on pretty much every Japanese channel, so a food company collaboration or sponsor might've worked. I'm sure someone would run out to pay worship to its greatness. Razz

Looks like it.

I did find something else while looking up imochin but I don't know if I should bring it up. It seems apt to describe the show, but I think linking what I found might give the wrong impression.

I was wondering what happened 8 minutes in to make multiple people jump ship there, so I checked:

8:09 sexy grape lady crossing guard
8:12 grape lady's wig whisked off
8:20 totally radical polar bear
8:22 Nejiru gets whacked in the face by said polar bear
8:42 cupid (?) butt poking

Yeah, I can see why you'd bail then. The show never stops being that frenetic; it's absolutely not for everyone, but if you have the stomach (read: masochism) to sit through several dozen episodes of brain-melting nonsense (the show's words, not mine), I highly recommend it.

But even if you don't, I recommend episode 34 anyway. It's the Cast Away episode (Screwed Away; again, the show's words, not mine) where the annoying flying butt screw laments its lack of protagonist status through what can ostensibly called song. It's like episode 7 of 18if in that it's a radical high(?)-concept departure from the show's usual shtick, but instead of being a gorgeous but divisive masterpiece it's just divisive. And it is possibly The Best* Thing to exist, save perhaps the Your Name parody (episode 44, "Heybot: The Movie").

*don't trust my definition of best i beg of you

I remember watching the first episode back last year and couldn't make it to the end because of the absurd, Teen Titans Go-style jokes. Because of Micchy and Steve's discussion, I'm considering giving the show another chance. However, if I end up still hating the show, I'll never, ever watch it again.

I gave the first episode a watch back when in first aired. I loved the energy and ridiculousness of it. I remember thinking that this might be a hidden gem to return to one day. It's good to see that my prediction was right. It reminded me of a more hypo and wacky Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo. Even though it's skewed at younger audiences I plan on giving a good shot.

It really isn't skewed at younger audiences. It is skewed at their parents. The majority of its jokes and references are for people in their 30s and 40s.

If it worked for kids they wouldn't have episodes later in the show based around the fact half the toy line never got released. It's not quite Gundam Age level of failing to connect with the theoretical target audience as it never feels like they are even trying to in Heybot. It's closer to Kabuto Borg in that has the feel of the staff amusing themselves first and foremost.

well, they've been bitching about a japanesse kids show, A FREAKING KIDS SHOW and they've been giving it with such a big deal like the world's gonna end. And it's all about a kids show.

I hated Heybot. I can handle stupidity. I can often appreciate it, especially if it's calculated and put together well. My thoughts as I put them down the day I watched the last episode:
Quote:
Rarely as teeth-grindindly shit as the first few episodes, but rarely more than chuckle-inducing. I admired the irreverence and the breadth of material for its parodies and references, and Heybot's psycho stalker was generally good value. I also did like how the protagonist was unreservedly a shit person and obsessed with material desires (screws). But 90+% of the gags missed the mark and it was overall just irritating rather than amusing. Similarly, most episodes were just exercises in stupidity, rather than well-constructed wackiness. A lot of potential, but it was let down by the execution almost every time.

I'd say it was around 7% insane genius, 93% dreck.

@Blood-: It gets a bit better, and has some good bits, but if you had to stop watching partway through episode 1, it probably won't be worth it.
