Well I don't wanna listen to a man whose works is complete trash.
I really loved Gantz back in the days but...it had awful culmination and ending. It ruined everything. Hen Love is one of the worst things I've read. Inuyashiki was pretty good but turned really boring in the middle. So...maybe you create something good first, man? Good until the very end? |

Well at least he has good taste in music? Satoru Kousaki is one of the best in the anime soundtrack industry.

Huh? He isn't allowed to have an opinion because you have a problem with his works? What kind of thinking is that? |

Oh, no. Oku has a different opinion from other people who liked the film. Now he has to explain himself to said people. Also, the people who read his works and didn't like them will bring them up (irrelevant, btw) as a counterpoint regarding the subject at hand (reminder: irrelevant, btw). Looks like I arrived too late.

He says he was bored watching the movie. I am saying I was bored reading his works. See that connection?) I am just saying his idea of "boredom" has nothing to do with mine. And instead of saying how bad is something he would have better create something cool himself. He's not a critic, he's a creator himself, that's the difference. If Makoto Shinkai/Hayao Miyazaki/I dunno, Naoki Urasawa said that, I would have had no problems with that. But Oku Hiroya...well...that's fun. |

I don't see why a creator would need to have the obigation to create works better than every other work they criticize. I think everyone has the right to freely express their opinions, especially when talking as a private person. It would be a different story if a CEO would express such an opinion in the name of their company, but Oku used his private Twitter account, the very same he also uses to post other stuff about his private life or retweets dog videos. Only because he himself creates works he shouldn't be forbidden to express his opinions about other works in his own private internet space – at least that's what I think.

well oku hiroya's characters are much better than you average lte night anime, so if fireworks charcters are like that, his criticism is spot on and he has all the moral ground to do so.

Oh come on, ANN. "Some early reviews have praised"? Stop spinning the story like how DC fan sites talked about BvS when it was released. Almost everyone living in Japan see a totally different story. The movie's received a 2.2 out of 5 on Eiga.com, which is essentially the Metacritic of Japan. Livedoor News even had a report on how reviewers were almost universally negative of the film, and that's saying a lot.
I'm not the biggest Gantz fan, but with that baiting title and misleading header of yours, I really have to reconsider your objectiveness in reporting news, ANN. |

I don't see the problem. Some early reviews DID praise the film. There is a linked article right there! The general consensus from the preshowing for critics did seem positive. Either way, there is nothing remotely misleading about this post. |

........okay?
That's a rather absurd prerequisite
He doesn't have to be a critic to criticize something going by that logic "anyone" who says something critical about a work needs to be a critic to dissect a work....which I don't need to tell you is not how criticism is supposed to work.
But then that would contradict your argument that as a creator of a work Oku can't criticize someone else's work along with your previous argument about Oku making works that get shaky as they go along as I know for a fact Urasawa's "Monster" got a bit absurd towards the middle and end (though it was still a good series). |

I'm a huge fan of Hiroya Oku's work and I also love the movie.
Please don't fight, there's no need to insult Oku's work just because he didn't like the movie. Actually I'm not surprised that he didn't like the artstyle, because he hates moe stuff in general. He already expressed his dislike for stuff like catgirls or large anime eyes several times and he even said in an interview that he wanted to make moe girls with nekomimi an alien race in his Gantz manga and let the protagonists slaughter them |

It was a fairly mild criticism.
Nothing to get upset about in any way. |

During their childhood, did anyone even suspect that airborne fireworks were constrained to explode along a flat plane? I'd have assumed that the radial nature of explosions would be a rather immediate concept to grasp. |

That was the first thing I thought of when I read the synopsis as well. I guess so! At some point, with little understanding of chemistry or physics, I suppose it would be easy enough to believe that it's just a big flat plane. Especially if you always experienced them from a distance at roughly the same spot. Growing up, we had fireworks that we bought ourselves, which naturally led to many dangerous experiments that taught us all kinds of valuable lessons! |
