It's not event that. If that was the case, i wouldn't have enjoyed Mahouka, the LN at least, and much as i did. The problem is that we already know which powers and "cheat codes" Touta will have. Just follow Negi's progression curve, but at 10 times the speed. <.<

Touta is merely the vehicle through which the audience gets to revisit all the characters from Negima D: some of the new characters are great, like Kirie, but by and large the main draw of this series is for Negima fans to look forward to cameos.

^mmm, pretty much that. I'm only a couple of volumes into this series so far, but even as far in as I am I can already feel that Akamatsu wants to get straight to the super-power battles by giving Tota leverything in as short a time span as possible. I get that there's probably not as much point in wasting time when the world is already more or less established, but Negima had this nice mix of shonen battle/training stuff, plot and cute girls doing stuff that balanced it out and prolonged the story, which I feel made it the more well rounded.

which is both a good and bad thing cause after Vol 11, it will officially become "another typical harem series" and i have a feeling that it wont be as cut & dry as negima since in typical harem fashion , nothing was resolved in the romance department except for a few characters.

Actually, I think UQ Holder is merely Akamatsu's vehicle for Yukihime (and other Loli) fanservice. I think he still wants to do a "battle manga" which is why he keeps a lot of what he built with Negima, but he puts a LOT of "filler" time into Touta+Loli-girls. (mainly Eva and Kirie)

in a way, it's not that it's an unsurmountable problem, and actually doing something interesting with that is a fun challenge.
