4 are region-specific, not 3. Tauros is only found in NA.

Just buy a 3DS and ORAS and enjoy an infinitely better experience with actual battles and content.

spoiler[Johnson's claim to fame is under question, however. British tabloid The Sun claims Londoner Ahmed Ali is the first person in the world to catch every Pokémon. Ali has also caught all 145 Pokémon, allegedly two weeks after the game was released. He traveled to the U.S. to get Tauros but was lucky enough to get the other region-specific monsters via eggs. Ali is waiting for confirmation from Niantic to see if he's the first to complete the game's Pokédex. ]


Frame can sure be problematic.

How do they know that he's the first? And if it was hack-free?

Just kind of a skeptic, since some guy got so much attention, that his trips got comped for him, too. (I haven't even heard of it until now).

True, but in this case it's just a Tabloid trying to stir the pot, trying to get readers. People can claim they are first, but in this case all Nintendo has to do is verify the logs on the server to verify who really was the first.

So congrats to the winner.

Though personally, be nice if capturing Pokemon was old school, where you earned that mastership by having to battle than just simply tossing a ball.

How Pokemon Go found success — despite not being a very good game

    But the very fact that players actually need to talk to others to figure out how the game works seems to contribute to its massive success as a social catalyst.

    On a Gamasutra blog post titled "Pokemon Go and the good things that can come from a bad UI (user interface)," writer Chris Furniss compared the common experience of learning how to play Pokemon Go to learning how to play a board game.

    "The majority of the time you're learning with a friend who has already played the game. You can ask questions, and get your learning experience tailored to the way that you learn best," Furniss wrote.

    "The less-than-intuitive UI may not have been intentionally confusing on Niantic's part, but they certainly stumbled upon something magical: the power of the community."

    What's more, Pokemon Go's relatively bare-bones feature set may be what's attracting the large audience — one that would otherwise be alienated by traditional Pokemon games, like the upcoming installments Pokemon Sun and Moon, which are comparatively packed with menus as well as complex battle and exploration mechanics.

    In a Guardian feature that asked developers how they would improve Pokemon Go, Rami Ismail of game studio Vlambeer argued that its strength comes from the fact that it isn't much of a video game at all.

    "It's a collection game. It misses all of those things that people think about when they think 'game,' and that's why it's accessible and pleasant," Ismail said.

Still waiting devs to add more Pokemons from other generation, prefer gen 2-4. The game will become boring so fast after you caught literally all of gen 1 Pokemons.

The Pokémon main series was largely a collectors' game when it was new too. Remember the "Gotta catch 'em all!" slogan? You had a lot of people who just wanted to collect them and never battle, though there still are plenty of those people. It was really visible with the TCG though, which had so many more collectors than battlers that many non-players didn't know there was a game around it. Many collectors didn't know either. People assumed you bought these cards to collect them. Some people came up to me asking if I had any duplicates they could trade, and when I said I was holding on to my extra Poliwraths for my deck, they were confused like as if I was speaking Martian. It wasn't until Yu-Gi-Oh! that the Pokémon Trading Card Game took off as a game, as Yu-Gi-Oh! popularized the concept of a collectible card game. (And Magic: The Gathering had always been niche.)

As for confusing UI and ambiguous interfaces, I'm a fan of a type of game that's had confusing UI and ambiguous interfaces for a long time (spoiler[pinball]), and it's never had any of that community interaction, and instead becomes a turnoff for people attempting to get in. But I guess Pokémon GO has the factor of explosive growth and people walking around outside in public clearly playing it so they can talk to strangers and ask questions.

I'm guessing you were not in elementary school or middle school when Pokémon Generation I and II were going on. It was such a big deal to have a full Pokédex. You got a lot of school cred over that.

There's also a key of not having too many Pokemon: the first 151 will fit easily into most people's minds, but things start getting complicated if you expect them to deal with over 700 of the things. I have little doubt the app will expand, but it's likely to do so slowly and probably at a slower rate than the games.
