If it's a TV series reboot I'm pretty sure they'll have enough material to make it longer than one cour haha it's currently at around 200 volumes in Japan

Would Fuji tv open yet another anime timeslot, like they just did for Monster Hunter? We know it's not for Toei's Strong 9 nor Noitamina. Sazae and Maruko probably aren't going anywhere..i guess it's just a tv special.

Given that it's mainly an episodic (I think) comedy manga, I don't think it's really going to make a difference whether it's a reboot or not. It is, after all, Shonen Jump's longest running manga (since 1976; it just recently released its 199th [!] volume).

Kochikame is episodic SOL with various reference to popular issues and happening in Japan. They probably will either adapt newer chapters or modified the older chapters to look like it happen in present day Japan rather than in 80s.

So Studio Gallop has been commissioned again to do the animation production for the new Kochikame anime after all. Nice! Very Happy

And it's great that the voice actors from the old anime series are reprising their roles. Hopefully, this new anime will be a series.

Why hasn't it been licensed out here? Is it because it doesn't represent Viz's branding for a Shonen Jump title?

It's because manga fans don't like to buy into manga that they think will never be fully released in English (they've been burned a lot over the past two decades) and no publisher is ever going to commit to translating and releasing 200 volumes of anything.
