Wow. I really had to cringe when I read that. Going out of your way to add the English names to make sense of it(Mitsurugi/Edgeworth or Masashi/Larry being "M") is so pointless(imo) when the plot of this story is directed at players who only play Japanese version. I think you should wait for the English version of the DLC(with the edits) to be announced to cater to that audience.

Same thing with the current anime. You hear the main character call himself "Naruhodo Ryuuichi" and the subs(CR, but they have an alt track with the original names) say "Phoenix Wright" or "Nick." I'm not even being a weeb or anything. It just doesn't look right when this is clearly the Japanese version of the game/anime.

I hope it's Gumshoe and Maggey. Maggey's name is Mako in japanese and they appear in both series. Don't see where time travel fits into this though.

Your opinion is invalid. CR putting the western names there was th right thing to do. I'd rather read character names I am familiar with then ty to remember a whole new set of names.

^ So you're too lazy to expand your horizons on a series you like(if you do like it) by not learning about its origins. Your opinion is invalid as well. Goes both ways. Razz

I never understood that reasoning. Any show you watch you're going to have to remember the characters' names so unless you don't watch any new shows it doesn't seem like a bigger deal than any other show you watch.

It's a shame Capcom can't offer an alternate track for the games that use their real names and dialogue, but the games aren't very popular here so I imagine it's not worth their time if they can't even give a physical release for them anymore. The plus side is a bunch of my friends who are interested in the franchise are finally able to experience it through the anime as they didn't want to play localization. So it's pretty cool to see a bunch of new people get into the franchise thanks to the anime being properly translated after all these years so people can get the genuine experience.

Two things that I feel are false: First, the implication that there's a strict 1:1 relationship between the Japanese and English languages. Any time text is translated, fidelity is lost. If you want the "genuine experience" you need to buy the original Japanese game.
Second, implying that there's only one "genuine" experience. We could both watch the exact same program at the exact same time and in the same place, but our experiences are going to be different because we're different. Neither experience is superior to the other, and it may not even be superior to not experiencing it at all.

It's perfectly okay that you enjoy your Saiban in Japanese, but there's no reason to put down other people's choices.

Firstly, no a lot of people have talked about ANN and them being late with their news before. So no thank you, I like to read my news ahead. Besides there's a good chance that this dlc will never leave Japan. And if this does eventually get released I'm sure they'll make a separate article for the English dlc. Whenever it comes out.
And you really had to cringe? I'd say it's impressive to go to that length and edit the names. Because there are people who are curious about this dlc but can't pronounce their Japanese names.
About the anime....please don't use the alternate subs. Because the alternate subs are the game names.

"I'm not even being a weeb or anything" my butt. If you weren't a weeb, you wouldn't bother to complain about crunchyroll having alternate subs. Or replying to his opinion.
Also many people have played only the localized versions. Back when AA was new here stateside.

Came here to say the same thing. That'd be adorable, and Gumshoe has gotten enough shit for a lifetime already. Something nice going his way, please. Laughing Plus I just want to see him again at all.

They're using the English names because that's what most of the North American speaking audience is familiar with the same way people in this country are familiar with calling Son Goku just Goku eventhough some characters in the Japanese dub like Bulma refer to him by his last name. That being said though there's little consequence to this story being written in spite of this story applying to the Japanese version which is coming out ahead of the English version.

Calling out Crunchyroll for their fan pandering or writing around copyright tendencies is
pointless.

The "using Japanese titles/names" type of gate keeping that the anime community seems to do a lot is the most bewildering kind of gate keeping I've seen. How does calling Phoenix Wright Ryuichi Naruhodo make you any more of a fan than people who use localized names? It doesn't. It's a stupid superiority complex anime fans seem to have.
