Ace Attorney 6 Video Previews DLC Chapter About Time Travel, Marriage
posted on by Karen Ressler
The Japanese website for CAPCOM's Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Spirit of Justice (Gyakuten Saiban 6) Nintendo 3DS game began streaming a video preview of a DLC chapter on Tuesday. The chapter will be available for free download in Japan from June 30-July 20, after which time there will be a charge to play it.
In the video, the characters hold court to try to figure out what goes on in the special chapter. Edgeworth has received a letter from an unknown sender that reads, "In the special chapter a character who has appeared in Ace Attorney and Ace Attorney - Investigations will finally get married." Meanwhile, Phoenix has received a letter that says, "The character who is getting married has the initial 'M'," and Maya has received a letter that says, "The themes of the special chapter are 'marriage ceremony' and 'time travel'."
Just then, Oldbag appears, testifying that she is sure that it will be a love story for her and Edgeworth, since his Japanese name, Mitsurugi, begins with M. She has traveled from the past because it would be better for him to marry her younger self. Phoenix objects to her story but she claims she time traveled with the power of love. Edgeworth objects because the "M" could stand for "Maya" ("Mayoi"), but Phoenix counters that Maya does not appear in Ace Attorney - Investigations. Edgeworth has no rebuttal and Oldbag asks where he would like to Honeymoon.
Then, Larry appears and claims that he sent the letters and that the "M" refers to him (his Japanese name is Masashi Yahari). He presents video evidence where a girl in trouble uses a pendant to "return to a happier time." Phoenix points out that the guy in the video who seems to be the groom is not Larry, and Edgeworth adds that it looks like Larry is being thrown out of the wedding. Edgeworth also rejects Oldbag's assumptions based on her character sprite: if Larry has a new design for the special chapter, then she should, too, so she must not even appear in the special chapter. Maya notes that the present-day Oldbag is probably still waiting for her chance. In the end the judge says they will have to play the game to find out the details.
The game is slated for digital release in North America and Europe in September.
The game's theme is a "courtroom revolution." The game is set in a country called the Khura'in Kingdom, a "country of mystery and faith." The game contains a "Courtroom of Resignation" where defendants are only told to give up, as the Khura'in code of law decrees that the court needs no lawyers. The game will feature two protagonists: Phoenix Wright and Apollo Justice. While Phoenix's story will be set in the Khura'in Kingdom, Apollo's story is set in Japan. The "Mood Matrix" system from the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies game will return in Ace Attorney 6.
The game will ship in Japan on June 9, and it will retail for 5,800 yen (about US$51) for the package version and 5,546 yen (US$48) for the download version. Those who purchase the limited edition of the game will have access to two extra short stories in the game. One scenario will revolve around Phoenix Wright in Khura'in, and the other will revolve around Apollo Justice in Japan.
From June 9-29, players in Japan will be able to download a free costume pack with three limited time costumes: a Furio Tigre (Toranosuke Shibakuzō) outfit for Phoenix Wright, a student uniform for Apollo Justice, and a Trés Bien waitress uniform for Athena Cykes (Kokone Kisuke).
The official website streamed the game's eight-minute prologue anime video in March.
