It was a terrible adaptation of the novels. J.C. Staff adapted very wrong.

I didn't read the LN/manga but I liked Danmachi a lot and it was popular. I'm interested to get this and the following installments and that is what anime is ultimately for, so it succeeded. Therefore I don't think one can say that it was "wrong", just maybe not what you'd have wanted done with it.

I haven't finished the whole novel yet (I'm like 3/4 through) but this whole "Adventurers are ENVIOUS of Bell because he's GREAT and has a HAREM and THEY'RE NOT" is freaking insufferable. A shame because the whole surviving thing and getting actually saved for once was going great, even if Lyu suddenly joining the Bell harem made me cringe.

I disagree with the reviewer on the fight against Goliath; I thought it conveyed well the difficulty of taking down a Level 5 monster. With the reveals about Bell's and Lyu's backgrounds, and the way the Dungeon seems to be sentient, I am anxiously awaiting the next installment of this light novel series.

I agree with the reviewer in that, at least in the anime, if you go through it point-by-point, it sounds like a generic, insufferable yet-another-harem-fantasy series, but the characters helped make it stand out, and i actually enjoyed the anime very much.
I'm kind of torn on whether or not to pick up these volumes; i don't think i have the physical space for manga AND light novel series, and while I do very much want to see what happens after the anime, i don't want to promote the infuriating business model of only adapting 4 novels of a 15-part series, all in an attempt to sell more novels. Just finish the dang story! At least Spice and Wolf got a second season, but it will likely never be finished, just like Overlord and Maoyu.
However, if these become available digitally, i'll probably end up buying them regardless

On the aspect of the dungeon being sentient, I'm very intrigued. It reminds me a bit of Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson, where the Labyrinth is also sentient (and malevolent). Danmachi includes multiple different mythologies, but we have heard reference to the humans in those myths in the series. I do wonder if some of them will pop up before it all comes to an end.
