It boggles my mind that a series as lazy and uninteresting as Asterisk War got a 2nd cour, while so many better shows don't.

The only reason I watched it was because Rakudai Kishi aired at the same time and people kept comparing the two. Hell even Rakudai deserves a second cour more than this. How many copies could Asterisk possible have sold to justify a 2nd cour? 2k?

Rakudai sold more than Asterisk on both volumes within the first week. Asterisk is backed by Bandai Namco for the games and it's being advertised a lot. Rakudai has no such big corps backing it up.

But even still, it's selling more on BDs and remaining consistent for now on the first 2 volumes at a rounded up number of 2.3k copies sold and 500 on DvD as well. If the sales remain as consistent as this then the makers profit more than the average budget of 3M (in USD) of a single cour show at 12 episodes. But I have no idea what their actual budget was on the show, so that's all i have to go on.

The difference between Rakudai and Asterisk are so small. It doesn't really matter. Asterisk scheduled/budgeted for 2 seasons last time ago. It has nothing to do with bluray/dvd sales or Rakudai. Asterisk is backed by better and richer companies like Bandai Namco and Aniplex.
