I'm looking at Amazon Japan, and it's only on VHS there. So this would actually be the first DVD release of it anywhere.

Interesting pick-up, though I remember the OVA looked pretty lousy when it was featured on Anime Abandoned.

Looks like my memory of Anime Abandon was accurate:
Not exactly an endorsement. Of course, Bennet's opinion of a show shouldn't be held as the gospel truth, but his and my tastes usually align. And this didn't look so-bad-it's-good like Mad Bull 34. I'll probably skip this one, Discotek. Now if you tried some of these, we'd be talking: Angel Cop Baoh Cardcaptor Sakura Movie 2: The Sealed Card Future Boy Conan Invincible Super Man Zambot 3 Zoids Chaotic Century Zoids: New Century Last edited by ParkerALx on Fri Feb 05, 2016 2:27 pm; edited 1 time in total |

Every Streamline tape from back in the day used to open with an ad showcasing their catalog, which primarily sampled music from this title.

Parker: Future Boy Conan ain't happening, unless someone has the spare cash to pay off the Key estate.

Ditto. It's a shame I didn't record it; it's one of the very few anime that had aired on Sci-Fi Channel that I hadn't recorded back then. |

You're definitely better off skipping this. If you're looking for anime starring a superhero with the "man" suffix and with 8 in the title the cutscenes from Megaman 8 are a better sit than this. |

Was alright for a laugh at how dumb it was. Didn't really suit the addition of Maximum Edge like Devilman did, not least because 8man in the OVA is basically a robot in a leotard that runs fast. Cool to see it get picked up & given a sub release though. Would be curious to see how that stacks up against the dub, though not sure I'm curious enough to watch it again.

This OVA was amazing. Classic 90's anime at it's best.

Could this be a sign that DT could be releasing the original series? They usually bring out the older anime before the reboots and sequels (Mazinger Z anyone?).
Seconding these except with addition of Fuzors and Genesis. |

I wanna say that it got a couple different DVD releases here, but it definitely got at least one by Image Entertainment that I've owned for many years. This was always one of my fave OVA/movie type things from the 90s, the anime RoboCop lol (well aware that the 8-Man franchise goes back way further than Robo). Soundtrack was tough too. If the Discotek release has better video quality than my current DVD does, sign me up for a double dip. |

DuelGundam: Unless that thing sells really well, I doubt it. Unlike the original show, 8 Man After is old, but looks 'new'. But if, by chance, Right Stuf/Nozomi lost the rights to the dubbed version of the 60's show, there'd at least be an incentive to rescue that one, if nothing else.
scriver: I should rephrase it to the first DVD release of the Japanese version. |
