Hmm...I think this might be an anime. Regardless, Gen Urobuchi involved in this will definitely leave some memories so hoping for the project to be something memorable.

Well, this definitely isn't Madoka like everyone was predicting. Whatever it is, I hope it's good. I recently watched Expelled from Paradise and it was much better than I was expecting. Whatever this is, I hope Urobuchi has complete control over the series, unlike Aldnoah Zero (which I still liked, but I know it deviated from what he wanted).

Whatever it is, I hope Urobuchi is actually WRITING this time and not just slapping his name on it again. I am sick of Fauxrobuchi!!

Just because he didn't script the episodes does NOT mean he had a small hand in it. All the works listed he had heavy influence on, to the point of writing a basis for the entire story, creating the entire concept, or working with the scriptwriter. For Gargantia, he and one other created the universe, with his idea being the "space" part and introducing Ledo and Chamber, after the other guy had thought of a show in a sort of waterworld. Urobuchi scripted the first episode. For Psycho-Pass Urobuchi did all of season 1. Same with Madoka. He created Fate/Zero, despite having a lighter hand in the anime. Aldnoah.Zero was also heavily influenced by him, with him creating a major part of the story. Just because he didn't script it, does not mean he did not work constantly on the show. The slightest knowledge of the anime industry will show that just because someone is listed in the credits for something does not mean they were the only one that did it, or that they didn't have help. (For example, did you know that many anime are not just created by the one studio that is listed as its creator? Most anime that come out each season are actually created by various studios, with some doing more than others.) It's a lack of knowledge about how industries work that shows people's flat thought process on how anime is created. |

Except that they said on twitter he was only involved on the idea behind Aldnoah;Zero and with the first 3 episodes. Same goes to Gargantia (he created part of the world building and was involved with the script of the entire first episode, and the rest was elaborated by the rest of the staff, just like Aldnoah (they also confirmed that, to the point even Butcher didn't seem to be aware of the plot twist in the final episode of the first season). The rest is correct tho. |

Interesting that his most recent (to my knowledge) project wasn't even mentioned: Kamen Rider Gaim. Of the 47 episodes, he solo-wrote 30 of them. He co-wrote 14 episodes. The only things he didn't write were the 2 non-canon episodes (one to promote Kikaider, one to promote the summer movie), the final episode (which, quite frankly, was crap, and as far as I'm concerned there are only 44 episodes to the actual show), and the 4 movies (Wizard/Gaim, Taisen, Gaim/Drive, and the summer movie, although the summer movie did give him a "based on" credit, since he created the story for the series).

You were making it sound like you thought that Urobuchi was heavily involved in the writing for both Gargantia and Aldnoah. Which, as danpmss pointed out, is not true. He played very little role in either of those shows(Gargantia maybe a little more so, because he did write the finale as well as the beginning). In fact, he was busy writing for a live action TV show while Aldnoah was airing. And that is what the original complaint was about, I'm sure. He was little more than a namedrop to capture an audience, but because he was either too busy, or because they didn't let him, he was not doing the writing for the majority of those shows and that was a huge let down for people like me, who appreciate his more nuanced thematic writing. |

He wasn't actually writing the Psycho-Pass though. The one who was actually writing the episodes for the 1st season and the the Movie was Fukami Makoto while Urobuchi was making the rough plot for the episodes and then putting the finishing touches on the scripts. |

But a "small hand in it" is not enough for me personally. To me it is as simple as this: Fate/Zero written entirely by him (the anime is almost a 1:1 adaptation of his light novel, I checked), Madoka Magica written entirely by him (yes there is influence by Shinbo and INU Curry but he still wrote every line spoken in the show), for Psycho Pass he co- wrote almost every episode. All those shows turned out to be awesome (imho). Gargantia's first and last episode written by him (started out promising), Aldnoah Zero's first three episodes written by him (started out promising), Psycho Pass Season 2 not written by him at all. Those shows turned out to be huge disappointments (again imho). I know very well how anime is made and that it is a collaborative process but that still does not change the facts listed above. |

I'd also add that Urobuchi has stated that he did not create Inaho from Aldnoah.Zero, and that's the protagonist of the show. That says a lot about how much of a hand he hand in that show, and we all know how that came out.

Just to give a brief summary of the involvement Urobuchi had in the production of each anime series with his name on it:
Blassreiter: He was credited as "Series Composition" together with Director Ichiro Itano, and wrote 8 individual episodes. Chief writer, however, was credited to Yasuko Kobayashi, who wrote 11 episodes. As this was his first time working for an anime, I suppose that while he had part to do with the story, the final say went to Director Itano and Kobayashi. Phantom: He was the original creator and wrote 3 episodes but wasn't credited as Series Composition as the job went to Yousuke Kuroda, who had a much bigger influence on the structure and pacing of the series. Madoka: He was not only Series Composition but he also wrote all the individual episodes by himself, and even had a bigger say in the story than Director Shinbo himself (an interview revealed that Shinbo wanted Sayaka to live but Urobuchi said no). Psycho-Pass Season One: Was Series Composition and co-writer of 21 episodes with Makoto Fukami. An interview mentioned that the "first draft" of each script was written by Fukami, then Urobuchi did the supervision and rewrite. Psycho-Pass Season Two: Was credited as Planning Supervisor and Story Concept. This would mean that Urobuchi had little say in how the final product came out. The bulk of the blame for the plot could really go to Ubukata and Kumagai for this. Psycho-Pass Movie: Once again, he makes the biggest decisions to the plot, since he co-wrote the script with Fukami. Fate/Zero: Was credited as Original Creator, and was responsible for only supervising all the scripts, which were written by a team of four writers from Ufotable. Gargantia: Was Original Concept, Series Composition and wrote the first and final episodes. Which means out of the plethora of writers who wrote all the scripts for the series, he has the biggest duty to how the story turned out. Aldnoah.Zero: Was Original Creator and only wrote the first three episodes. The rest were all done by Katsuhiro Takayama. Had relatively small impact to the outcome of the series (yet another interview mentioned that the Inaho wasn't the Inaho that Urobuchi planned for). |

^^ Exactly. Thanks for that. I'm going to have to copy that comment, if you don't mind. It'll save me a lot of time in the future when I'm trying to explain this to other people. A lot of people don't really seem to get this.
Oh yeah, lets not forget the wonderful Gunslinger Stratos. Where he is credited with the Original Scenario, but, as far as I've been able to find, literally has nothing to do with the project. |

together with the director Murata Kazuya so his involvment wasn't really that huge. Also you can add the OVAs where he acted as a story supervisor.
Firstly it wasn't the Original Scenario but Original Concept/World view and secondly he even twitted about that saying that he has worked on the Original Concept for the game but didn't have anything to do with the anime adaptation. And don't forget about the Rakuen Tsuihou movie which is actually supposed to be his very first work on anime (because it was being produced since 2006).

For some reason it sounds like you are attacking me in both of your responses even though we aren't disagreeing on anything. I'm not a fan of this dialogue.
Not sure how I managed to forget about that one. I have a huge poster from the theatrical showing right behind me on the bedroom door. That was a good film. And felt like a solid Urobuchi project. |
