I saw this question in a different site and I've read quite a bit about it. I just thought I'd ask your own. Anime has created many different laws, almost always breaking the laws of true science. One such law is the ability of anime characters to fly, which is evident in most animes. We all know that this defies the law of gravity. There are many more, I am sure. Can you give some? Explain please, and give examples. My example would be the Dragonball series. I guess I need not further explain it. What about you?

Well for starters, I would say that your example of characters flying doesnt really qualify. Something flying infact does not defy the law of Gravity. If It does, Im gonna definitely have to look into how the heck I got to Philidelphia last christmas.

Someone having the ability to fly doesnt really conflict with any laws, it just isnt something real people are able to do. If youre looking for a list of powers people in Anime have, well thats gonna be a long list.

Secondly, Im pretty sure that its not a law of Anime that characters can fly. I assume you must mean "laws" of Anime as a vauge term since obviously there arent a true set of rules of what can and cannot happen in Anime. But even as a generalization, I really dont think there are very many characters who can fly. (certainly not to the point where Id call it evident in most animes.)

So Im not sure if I understand what youre asking and you just have a kinda poor example or if I've misunderstood what youre talking about here.

Yeah I'm a bit confused too. Are you asking about what laws of science anime breaks or anime laws it makes? If it is the latter then there is a pretty long thread here about anime laws that you want to check out:

Updating the 100 rules of anime..

And if it is about what laws of science it breaks, well.. pretty much all of them depending on what anime you look at. Like ikillchicken said it would be a long list. It is animation after all and one of the neat things about animation is that almost anything can happen.

Now that you mention it, it is confusing. Sorry. I don't understand it myself. What should I do with this then? I don't get myself.

Hmmm, how about the vibrating or pulsing eyes when exciting/confused/scared? It has a good dramatic effect, but I don't recall anyone I've ever seen in real life having optical seizures when scared.

To me, all mecha animes defy the laws of physics. Due to their size, all giant robots should have a relatively short life-span, due to the ongoing twisting and deforming of metals through "human-like" actions. For example, look at car tires. The reason why they have a rubber warping around them is that the steel frames would easily become dented if there was no absorbtion of shock. It seems as if mech-robots are practically indestructable when it comes to trivial things like that.

I don't think he means that characters actually fly, but that they can jump much higher than normal people.

Gundams defy gravity(or lack, thereof, since I'm talking about Gundams in space). In addition, almost all space opera series defy the laws of space.(there is no sound in space)

Other than that, though, there aren't really any laws of physics being broken.(slow-motion doesn't count)

Um,I do not understand this quite understand this thread. If you are saying why anime do not follow the laws of physics. The simply answer is it all fantasy. If that was the point of this thread than the answer was pretty obvious.

Is the theme anime tropes? The link is pretty indepth and probably has an example of all the ones I could possibly think of, but it's still rather entertaining. Is this what you mean by "anime laws"?
