Wow, I hope the upcoming movie won't be affected by this...
Although I do have hope. Kinda sad to Manglobe going down although I have to say that some of their shows have been hit or misses as of late. |

Can't say I haven't seen this coming. I feel for the animators, but after the horrible job they've done adapting Shonen Sunday manga for the past decade, I can't say I'll miss the company....

I am honestly surprised they lasted as long as they did. The shows they did almost never had good sales. With the exception of TWOGK (which was a decent adaptation... with a lot of missing content) and Hayane No Gotoku (which the manga fans pretty much hated), they never made anime that the Japanese wanted to buy. They mostly catered towards the US market, but that doesn't really pay the bills by itself.
I'm no expert, but I believe that Michiko & Hachiko was the beginning of their end. If I remember correctly, they made a huge effort to create that and spent a lot of money. The show bombed in sales and there was almost no other product to sell, so they lost a whole lot of money. I know people are going to say that it wasn't their money, since they had investors and sponsors, but investors and sponsors only pay the actual production process (if I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will correct me). The other stuff, like staff problems, overtime, marketing are all done by the production studio. tl;rd: Manglobe died because it didn't make anime that the Japanese wanted. As for me, I enjoyed Samurai Champloo and The Unlimited, but that's about it. Not going to miss the studio, but I am sorry about the people out of jobs. Damn. This is very unfortunate. I just want to thank them for all their works that I enjoyed, and I hope I'll be able to see Genocidal Organ so I can appreciate that even more.

Yeah I posted about this earlier this morning. While it sucks when this happens, at the same time I'm not surprised. Has Manglobe ever had a huge hit? The closest I can think of" Hayate the Combat Butler" and "The World God Only Knows".

Aside from making Ergo Proxy and Samurai Flamenco I am not familiar with this studio. However, this does bum me out since this would mean the best anime of 2013 is unlikely to get a full US release now.

Gee dad. I would love to but the bank told me "buying cartoons" in foreign languages I don't understand is not a valid reason to approve an increase in my line of credit or to give me a low interest loan. I'd have no other way to pay for it. In reality I'm shocked that this doesn't happen more often. How is Gonzo still around? |

And based on critical reception, they only worked on the BAD versions of Hayate no Gotoku (J.C. Staff's version is the only one that anyone I've ever asked seems to like, myself included of course). I heard good things about Gangsta, but major big hits? Only thing that I can see on their list was TWGOK. More than anything, I hate to see people lose their jobs. Best of luck to them |

Well it's good to see nobody is cheering people losing their jobs and an animation studio going bankrupt in an already struggling industry so my faith in the basic decency of this fanbase is temporarily restored. Still clearly people can see now that their really are problems in this industry and it's alright to talk about them and not pretend everything is glowing when some production committee that takes all the money and potential from animators and actual studios that do the ground work post record profits. This industry has a serious exploitation problem in general.
Hope those people find a way to collect their undue wages and don't get screwed while producers and execs run off with whatever assets are left. Animators I Japan really need a break after all that's gone on this year, being worked to death and major projects missing their deadlines or being forced to air specials just so 5 that they can maybe catch up. |

Late in 2009 they created two sub branches what is now C-Station and what was D-Station. C-Station became independent in 2012 and it seems most of the former Bee Train animators went with it. (Others went freelance) Having not made anything since the ending of Hyouge Mono in early 2012, it would seem they made a quiet retirement from the industry. I don't know what happened with Studio Road which was their paint studio, it's still around but I don't know if it's independent or owned by C-Station. |
