Sweet. I was waiting to hear a review from someone, this review convinced me to preorder it. Plus I love the box. Anything that'll save me shelf room. I'm a bit worried about AoD only giving it a B instead of a B+, but we'll see. Fushigi Yuugi was also my descent into anime hell, and the art is reminiscent of that. Although this character looks much more interesting than Miaka (as much as I love FY, sometimes I just wanted to smack her).

Re: Starbucks.
Eewwwwwwwwwwwwww. Re: Saiunkoku Who cares if its 'girly' it looks like a nice series and I've heard a lot of good things about it. I want it nowwwwwwwwwww.... but I need to wait for a Geneon sale to come around. And man, is this next one going to hurt the wallet....
I don't dislike these kinds of cases in principal. I like saving space, it gives me spare DVD cases and I can use the covers as wall decorations (especially if they have nice reverse images like the R.O.D. covers). I like my R.O.D. book and my Black Lagoon steelbook. But I really don't like this box. It's plain, its boring, and I don't feel like sticking my DVDs in that 'fan.' I don't think I've ever passed on a box before (unless I was getting the DVDs dirt cheap and/or the box wasn't available) but this time, I am. |

Man, that is SO awesome. Made my day... er.... night. Sae is such a horrible person. I'm barely into the series (1st disc borrowed from a friend) and I can just barely stand her, since I do love to hate her. |

I just recently read an article in the August Newtype USA about Saiunkoku, and I got really interested in it. The fact that it is the only Shelf Worthy title this week seems to make me want to see it even more.
As far as the LE box issue; ROD The TV did have that "booklet" box that housed only the dvd's. However, with volume 7, they offered a traditional artbox that also included a Anita King figurine. Now, I don't know if the volume 7 artbox was always planned, or if it was a reaction to negative comments by fans; but maybe Geneon will do the same for Saiunkoku as well. Personally, I think I'll take a wait and see stance and not buy the artbox right away.(Maybe there will be a Geneon rep reading this thread and will consider a traditional box down the road ) |

I also got the R.O.D. in the box (I think a whopping $200 MSRP) which was released as a set when the 7th volume came out. Of course I tossed the box since it takes so much space. I actually sent Bamboo links to the JPEGs of my collection last month which is a bunch of DVDs lined up on the floor. I think I'll need to send an additional pic of the DVDs that came in this month.

Yikes! Bamboo, sorry to hear that your special moment was tarnished by someone's bad hygiene.
Oooh. *is in awe of this week's set of shelves* Surprisingly, her livingroom(?) looks similar to my bedroom, in terms of wall color and the same kind of 'popcorn ceiling,' anyway. It's too bad I don't have the same packed shelves, as well. My collections look so puny compared to everyone's. |

I heard about Saiunkoku Monogatari through a friend I met at school a few months ago. I wasn't really enthusiastic about it, despite my love for shojo titles, cause the way she described it to me wasn't very good. Anyway, she seemed to like it a lot so I decided to see it for myself. Good decision.
At the start of the series, I thought it was gonna be boring but nope. It's surprisingly funny. Most of the comedy surprisingly comes from the female characters, like Shuurei and Kourin. Speaking of the women, it's a must see for all female otakus out there. Shuurei was so fun to watch because she was able to fulfill her goals even though nobody thought she could do anything about it at the beginning. Plus even with all her work, she still has time for love. |

I'm also a victim of the R.O.D--TV box. When I bought it I didn't have a clue what to do with it. I think I might just buy the "boxed" box set and leave the DVD cases in there while I put the discs in the "book box." Plus, the other box set comes with some extras I'm interested in.

Congrats, you should be proud of your courage because it's rare that a man would admit to watching Gravitation, Loveless and Descendants of Darkness. Those first three are all shôjo titles. Loveless is more shonen-ai but shonen-ai is targeted towards girls. |

That's basically what I did. DVDs in the book that came with volume 1 and cases in the box that came with volume 7. And since the missing case for volume 1 really annoyed me, $4 at the last Geneon sale filled it completely. I refuse to buy any more boxes like that one. The book is great, but then do what ImaginAsian is doing and ship the rest in paper sleeves. |

Those shelves are just amazing. I wish I had more space in my room so that I could put all of my manga on shelves (most of it it's in stacks on the floor ). Maybe, I'll try taking some pics anyway and submitting them.
Also, I'm so happy to hear you really enjoyed the first disk of Saiunkoku. I was lucky enough to see a clip of the first episode at the Geneon panel at Otakon and I just knew I had to see it. I'm definitely buying it now. |

I am so excited about Story of Saiunkoku. At first, I was also reminded of Fushigi Yugi, but that's not a problem by me, because I love that series, it was my first manga along with Sailor Moon and the first complete anime series I owned on VHS... I watch it at least once a year. But yeah, I've been keeping up with Saiunkoku online, and I can't wait to listen to it in english. That's mostly why I'm buying it, I want to see what everyone sounds like.

I was confused at first myself. It was the first box of that type I got so I had no experience with the "ditch the dvd case" idea. I kept all the dvd cases largely due to the fact that I got the ones with those cute pencil boards and the book box couldn't hold them all so I kept them in the dvd cases and put them away for safe keeping. I do think that the book box was very cute and genious though considering the series. I thought it was rather quaint and fit the show nicely.
Well I figure I gotta have some nice cute and light "frilly" anime to balance out the Nina Scroll, Black Lagoon, and Goddannar type shows lol. In all seriousness though I look for story and plot. Sometimes I want something fun and light, sometimes something funny, sometimes something dramatic and serious. I try not to get hung up on the minor details like who the show is marketed for or issues like that. Heck I'll go so far as to admit I think Yuki is good looking. I've been meaning to try Princess Tutu for a while now since I heard it haas a great story to it. Might get to that soon hopefully. |

Looks like I'm going to have to post my shelves when I get back home from my trip... I easily have 3-4 times that many manga.

I'd send in my pics, but my shelves are double parked with manga and DVDs, you can't see all of them at once. And I need to clean my room.
About Saiunkoku: Just looking at it makes me think of Kyo Kara Maoh, which sounded awesome in a summary, but I didn't really get into it. |
