I just read this volume the other day and I completely agree. This series is so good and so not what people probably suspect it to be: yet another otaku comedy.
I do think overall however that I do prefer the anime, since I think it had better pacing for it's story and it was just easier to see exactly what was going on. It does tone a few things down though, so the manga definitely has an edge in certain areas. And TP are definitely showing that they can be equal in translation to the other companies who more frequently have translation notes and such things (mainly talking about Del Rey, though Viz was the first that I saw have a good guide to the Japanese honourifics, found in W Juliet). Hopefully they can keep it up in other series (TP also did have pretty good notes in Tokyo Babylon). |

I really loved this volume in the manga because unlke the previous ones, it was easy to understand and to relate to however even though I finished reading the manga I still didn't understand what was going on inside Misaki-chan's head
 . Well I loved the whole RPG thing and I need to watch the anime to see how it portrays this outrageous manga.

You don't really get an explanation about this until right at the end, that is as long as the anime was the same as the manga in that respect (and I'm decently certain it would be, because it has been pretty much the same so far). |

i don't know guys. It was quite fun to read all of 3 volumes and looking forward to read next ones. Anime? Nah... If i read manga i usually don't watch anime and in reverse. Just a waste to do it over unless manga continues beyond anime story like in Genshiken for ex.

I watched the anime first, since it was coming out before the manga was available in English.
I don't really consider it double-dipping, because the mediums are so different. Even if the adaptation changes nothing (which doesn't happen in this case, though changes are minimal) it's still a different experience. The only reason I wouldn't watch an anime of a manga I really loved would be if the adaptation just plain sucked. |

I bought and thouroughly enjoyed this GN. It has changed from the "hey its an otaku jab fest" to "Hey its a social commentary laugh fest" Whatever direction it takes I'm very entertained by this series so far. Im looking forward to volume 4 greatly.
I think my favorite chapter is the RPG one. I always seem to like episodes in series that poke at MMORPG's. South park, Simpsons and Chobits did eps spoofing a MMO. |

I wish someone would license Kendi Oiwa's other manga, GOTH. His art is so gorgeous, and Goth is only a volume long, and it's just.... so creepily great. Much different atmosphere than N.H.K. Hard to believe it's the same artist.

The artist of NHK didn't write it though. NHK was originally novels with illustrations from aBe. So the Goth manga must be both written and drawn by them unlike NHK. |

Uh, no, Otsuichi is the original creator, while Kendi Oiwa is the artist. Also, marie-antoinette, the manga and anime of Welcome to the N.H.K. are both adaptions of the original novel. That's why ANN has them being "related" to each other, not adapted to or from. They also apparently divert enough in story to be different (word is that the anime is also more faithful to the original novel, but there's no way in hell am I going to check it out with Gonzo's geniuses behind it). |

I guess they could be, though they do have the exact same character designs so clearly there was some collaboration (unless it was a light novel of course). And so far everything has happened fairly consistently, for the most part, though of course we have yet to see the ending of the manga. |
