Coincidentally, I saw the first 6 dubbed episodes of Chunibyou's second season today. While I will avoid the politics part, I too like Russia because of this: The former USSR and the -stan countries have so many beautiful Caucasian and Central Asian Ovcharka dog breeds/types.

I don't think it's good to have affection for a thing as destructive and horrid as the Soviet Union was. Regardless of what she THINKS, the facts still exist.

While that's true, you should consider this angle: Communist philosophy would deem capitalism bad and vice versa. That is, communist nations would see themselves as the heroes and deem capitalists the villains and vice versa. Last edited by Kadmos1 on Thu Jul 23, 2015 11:32 pm; edited 1 time in total |

She needs to send the book to Abe, that tyrant is trying to start a war with China knowing all too well, Japan can't win and the US won't give too much of a darn when war does happen. Japan must not go back to the 1930's militaristic nation or it will bring grave consequences to the country.

I'm glad she finds the USSR "interesting" and it's not dark and scary and is good as a fashion statement, she should stay like maybe forever...The USSR wasn't dangerous and will never return? She should ask Ukranians about that. A good reason never to listen to celebrity opinions on world politics (I'm looking at you Rodman)

To be fair, she's looking at it for its only for its value in art and fashion. Still it always kind of confused me how Japan kind of does this. For example, I thought it was weird in Beautiful Dreamer how they had a 'Third Reich' cafe for their student festival. That kind of thing wouldn't fly here and definitely not in Germany. |

It is all well an good to appreciate history. Evil times make for fascinating history, but you also have to appreciate the horrors also. Stalin was just as evil as Hitler and Mao. While their are plenty of Russians that wish for the glory days of the Soviet Union, there are millions of Russians that remember their family members and friends disappearing into the Siberian prison camps.

We love Germany for obvious reasons. Speaking of the former USSR, I think Kazakhstan should left UEFA and join AFC again.

Well, she's proven you don't have to be smart to be a seiyu.

Russian is one of the most difficult languages to learn for non-native speakers. She majored in it. It's not that she's stupid, it's just that she's giving opinions on subjects beyond her area of expertise. There's even a term for that: ultracrepidarian. |

The hell the US wouldn't care; we have major economic ties in both China and the US, such a thing would be destructive to our own economy. I don't know the situation, but it doesn't make sense to me that Abe would try to start a war with China. They're both super-powers, and... It'd kind of be mutually assured destruction, wouldn't it? As for this voice actress... It almost feels like she's looking at it as though it's fiction. To her, it may not be scary, but she's only read about it. To the people who actually suffered because of it... Seems like a statement like that would be offensive. But I think it's just naivity; I can't really feel angry at that. |

People seem to all conveniently forget every countries have dark spots in their histories. It's true Ms Uesaka seems quite biased to Russian culture in general, that wasn't the purpose of her essay. There isn't already enough people speaking out for pacifism.
