It's a shame it's not happening, but that's ok. They already did a Mad Max anime. It's called Fist of the North Star.  BTW, I think Miller's aware of the post-apocalyptic anime 'inspired' by Mad Max.

Judging by anime adaptations of Highlander, Marvel anime, Supernatural, Halo and Batman, I'm glad it never happened. Japanese animators these days rarely understand the concept of what makes these properties appealing in a first place.

From what I've heard the problem is that the publisher just hands it off to any studio, without considering if anyone even wants to do it or not, so you get a team making something they have no investment in. But since they get paid well for it they just make it anyway.
The Animatrix for instance was done by Production I.G, who had an interest in the product since it was similar to their own works.

I just went back and rewatched that the other day, and I was really surprised at just how good it still looks. You are absolutely right; several of those shorts are very GITS, plus Shinichiro Watanabe's sense of noir and dynamic motion, and then there is that one that reminds me of Reign the Conqueror.

Cutie: If you mean the anime, it's not gonna happen, unless Miller comes up with more material. If you mean the new movie, that's not gonna happen either, 'cus he's aiming for a gritty reboot that's more in line with in the original films, not that kid-friendly one from the 80s.

The Animatrix disagrees, and I also loved half of the Batman Gotham Knight ones they made.
It depends on whether the producers care. The Wachowski's certainly did and they went after specific talent. They courted cream of the crop directors and studios.
Most of the others just churn it out and want it made cheaply.

If anything, Metal Max (which is inspired by Mad Max) should get an anime since Kadokawa has the rights to the game making it an easy call for one.

And American producers OF the Halo, Marvel and Batman series have no concept of what "anime style" is, except that it probably looks like The Animatrix or Afro Samurai, which means it's all sort of Ghost in the Shell-ish, 'n stuff.
And although it probably was partly Warner's idea, it still dates back to Miller originally wanting to do Fury Road as an animated (mocap?) movie, back during the days when he was trying to figure out how not to cast old Mel Gibson in it, and when he was still on his playing-with-animation high from "Happy Feet".
Which is sad evidence that Robert Zemeckis' Disease is not as long-term curable as we thought.

I thought it was ok effort, nothing exceptionally good though, despite all the people who were involved in project. Granted, I don't remember much, it was good 10 years since I watched The Animatrix last time, maybe something vanished from my memory.

Animatrix was actually made by Madhouse and Studio 4C. It still had an impressive staff: Koji Moriimoto, Mahiro Maeda, Yosjhiaki Kawajiri, Takeshi Koike, and even Shinichiro Watanabe of Cowboy Bebop fame directing episodes. And hey, I liked Halo, Batman, and Supernatural. An anime Mad Max would've been awesome too.

kevin: IG is credited on the Animatrix, just not in a significant capacity. I just skimmed the credits now, and it said they did in-between work for Kid's Story. They had more involvement with the HALO anime, though.
