I interpret the "appear to be" to be referring to ages, not their existential status. Which has its own somewhat smaller issues.

The phrasing seems odd to me then. Why would you write: "most of the 20 images were anime, although a few appear to be of real girls between five and 13 years old" instead of something like: "most of the 20 images were anime, although a few were of real girls who appeared to be between five and thirteen years old". That at least makes it more clear what they are talking about. If what you say is the case, then it's just poorly worded.

Have to disagree with this. When it comes to this, this is what you teach them to beware.
1. Beware of your relatives.
2. Beware of the friends that your parents and siblings bring home.
3. Then beware of strangers.
This is the order of importance.

Can you get any more stupid... Bringing porn to work, that's like asking to get fired. I would still sympathize with him if it were just hentai, but real child pornography just eliminated any chance of anyone speaking for him.

I agree with this. It isn't always strangers that might be pedophilic. In fact, my rule of thumb is suspect everyone around you, even your parents.

Like it was said, I understand if there real kiddy porn photos for such a sentence but all or mostly manga porn is something else.

Not even just that, I don't think. If I remember correctly from what I have read in the past, most of these crimes are committed by family members or people somewhat close to the victim. So really you should be more wary of relatives and friends than strangers.

The Crown does not care whether the images are real or anime/manga, ever since the Edmonton case, don't possess any possible material in Canada.

Aand immediately lost any sympathy from me.
Though it must be stated the drawn images shouldn't count toward any crime no matter how vile they might be, provided of course no real underage models were used... |
I agree, I was reading though this and I thought the punishment was WAY too harsh until I read that there was real images and then, I lost my sympathy too.

I agree but it also depends on what series they were. For something like To Love-Ru Darkness, I can see why though the series doesn't yet have an actual sexual intercourse scenes.

He's lucky to be getting off so light. Seems old people can get away with a lot.
Anyway, the moral of the story? Don't carry porn around with you in public. Had he not taken the USB drive to work then he couldn't have possibly lost it where someone could find it, and so he wouldn't be in trouble right now.

Did you just claim that someone should get 8-10 years in prison even if all the images they have are hentai?

There's no need to ruin someone's life just for possessing hentai.

I guess that depends on the country you live in >.> In some countries, Hentai could get you the death penalty and other countries they would probably ignore it completely.

But if they aren't real images, and he's kept them to himself, who is he harming? Other than himself perhaps, I don't think anyone is being harmed. I'm sure you find people who enjoy that sort of thing disgusting(correct me if I am wrong here), but if no one is getting hurt and they keep it to themselves, why should it be criminal?
In the case of this guy, I'm not even convinced he does actively seek this type of material out. Usually when someone is outed for child pornography they have quite a bit more than just a handful of images. In addition, the articles about this are not very detailed, and make me wonder if this isn't just an overreaction.

i guess it's up to each family
if you have to worry around your relatives--- then maybe it's time to cut ties
as for friends of parents and siblings? why would they be hanging around the kids? that's a red flag by itself..
so i would worry about strangers
common tactics-- luring kids with treats or pets , etc..

sex offender is a term that i used. It was not in the article.
there are variety of levels for sex offender
did you know that if you urinate outside in public and they caught you 3 times .. you will be a registered sex offender ?
this guy in the article will be the higher level up for possession of graphic materials (or something like that)
like i said in the first post.. it will start with something and soon or later it will escalate to something worst..
honestly, for the guy in the article.. seeking help should be in order.. since if you are turned on by looking at a child.. eh.. you need help
since you will be going to prison or killed soon or later
there are protective parents around as well--- the type who pointed a shotgun at you for bringing their 18 yr old daughter home late.
depends on which states you live in--- but if you are 18+ and dating some under age girl (17 and under), even with her consent.
any sexual contacts with girl is against the law-- if her parents wanted to take you to court--- then you will be a registered sex offender in no time
since under 18 is still a minor in some states-- so check ID first
