I can understand why NIS would want to incentivize PS4 purchases by making PS4 the lead platform, but to say that Disgaea 5 "can't" be ported is weird.
Games are downgraded all the time to make ports. Perhaps it was meant that Disgaea 5 can't be ported in its current form.

As a PS3 owner who has very little intention of upgrading any time soon I'm a little disappointed to hear that D5 was at a point going to be on the PS3 as well, however as long as I can get a copy of 5 when I eventually get a PS4 in probably 2-4 years or whenever there is a large buildup of Atelier games for the console I will manage.

This is basically how most developers need to run if they want the PS4 to sell well. I mean, it's doing pretty fine now in the West, but if you multi-platform in Japan, no one's going to be buying the newer system just for better graphics. Considering I want the PS4 to sell well so that it doesn't die out too quickly (before I can buy one), it's probably a necessary evil...

Disgaea 4 was? I'm guessing you mean 5
But 4 on the Vita really was very beautiful graphic wise, and kept all the contents. By the looks of it, they're going to have a ton of new stuff (including curry battle systems? Hahaha)

No it's not, please just say you want it to be exclusive to the PS4. It's ok to admit this to fans, we aren't new to gaming and it isn't that disappointing.

It's nice to see a game company straight up come out and say they're going to be supporting the new generation. The less cross generation games the better. It not only can strengthen the quality of the game but can in turn strengthen the console they're being put out on.

Either that's true that they can't port it or they don't want their fans to wait for a Vita/PS3 version that may or may not happen. They want you to buy now and double dip later if they do plan to make those versions.

Actually judging from some details people have been discussing, the system resources needed to run more AI and multiple characters on screen would indeed require more powerful hardware, which would have to be massively scaled down to work on PS3/Vita and thus would be like the Wii / WiiU situation, practically demanding the budget of making an entirely new game, which wouldn't be worth i, so most devs ignore Nintendo's underpowered platforms because multi-plat dev for them wouldn't be practical. So either they cut down on their ambitions, or see their ambitions through on less restrictive hardware and developing for a single platform is also more practical and straightforward. Also given that PlayStation has been the obvious console of choice for Japanese gamers, they'd obviously go with the most popular one.

Well, this is the first PS4 game I actually want to play. Still, i'm going to have to wait another 2 years before I get one. Not enough games i'm interested in. My WiiU is where it's at right now, and my 3DS is getting a lot of love too. Barely use my PS3 the last 2 years except for watching BD's.

Same. I just play 90% of my games on PC but I want to get a WiiU because it actually has exclusives right now. As for this game not being able to be ported to PSV....that's to be seen. People shouldn't call him a liar until we actually see the full game. Maybe it's too big for the Vita, maybe there's features that have insane processing or GPU usage that the Vita can't handle, ect ect. We've hardly seen much so far, it's unfair to call him a liar at this point.

Jesus, just bury NIS and distribute assets to Capcom or something.

This is pretty much where I've been at since the 360/PS3 generation; I got a 360 early on when Lost Odyssey came out, since the PS3 had jack for JRPGs at the time and I've regretted it ever since - literally every game I got was better on PC and there is already a vast library of good JRPGs on old consoles I can emulate. I haven't seen a great JRPG I've wanted to get a console to play since the PS2 days.
Japan needs to kindof wake up and realize they've got a massive market for their products in the Western world.

Not really, though. I doubt most of the Americans who have PS4s are eagerly awaiting Japanese games that are not named Metal Gear Solid. It's those people who are waiting to buy a PS4 that have a desire for Japanese games on it.
American gaming tastes have changed, or rather they stayed the same and were drown out by all the new blood which came into the scene with the PS3/360 era. The issue with Japanese developers and the PS4 is it's clearly marketed at western audiences more than Japan at this moment, so they are going to keep developing for consoles that are bought in Japan like the PS3, Vita, 3DS, and even WiiU to an extent. Maybe in a few years it'll change, but right now Japanese developers have little reason to develop for the PS4 over other consoles.

Between Final Fantasy XV, MGS, and Disgaea 5 i am getting tempted to get a ps4. Ill probably still wait a bit though.
Glad to hear the vita isnt getting a port. Its frustrating having a version with less stuff. Doesnt Disgaea 3 and 4's ports have exclusive content? Makes me mad to have the ps3 versions where i cant even pay for dlc to play the extra stuff.
