As much as I like Akio Takami, he done f'cked up royally here. There's nothing preserved of Inazuma's art, and that are the designs that should be left alone because this isn't a matter of simplifying it for TV, but substituting one design over another.

I feel exactly the same. ![]() Either Xebec should've gotten someone else or maybe MADHOUSE should've adapted it since they remained faithful with Highschool of the Dead. |

It burns oh god does it burn.
I mean come on they look god awful, Xebec animated Argevollen pretty dam well with normal character designs why couldn't they do the same for this series? Not one of the girls in Triage X is plump in any proportions. I'll still watch this garbage but I think I'll go hug my copy of the manga right now since its the true version of the series. |

No wonder that reminds me a bit of High School of the Dead.

Yes he is but the key art is exactly what the manga is about. Here is my MU review:
Yeah, its realy bland (3/10) I have to agree with some of the cats here. Satou Shouji is just not bringing it as a writer here or elsewhere and this whole "mature" shonen manga stuff seldom works. Just Tits and Violence and not much substance. The porn inspired art is not for me but is reasonably well done so that aspect is OK. The rest, meh. Give it a pass. So if you don´t like how they adapted the boobZ then it has no value i guess ? Just read his hentai. I allways find it fascinating what happens to AKB48 members after the fact btw. I also just found out that Takami worked on Patlabor 2. Did NOT expect that. |

Yeah, I'm surprised they didn't go with Madhouse since as you said they did them very well in HOTD. |

When I saw Akio Takami's attached to it, I was cautiously intrigued by the selection, because as interesting as his design style can be, it is definitely not the type I would chose to adapt the equally distinct style of Inazuma. He seems to have done more "faithful" adaptations before, but unfortunately, the producers have opted to go with his style in full— —Which does not make a whole lot of sense. One of the major appeals to something like Triage X is to see Inazuma's design work. That's been gutted here, and Takami's designs really don't mesh with what was originally made. It looks to be more on the bad side of "unlikely design combinations", reminiscent of Shangri-la's adaptation, where Kumi Ishii (Red Garden, Kurenai) adapted Range Murata's (Last Exile, Blue Submarine No. 6) designs (which where essentially complete redesigns from Kenichi Yoshida's (Eureka Seven, Gundam Reconguista in G) original ones from the novel). Sure, Ishii and Murata rank at the very top of my favorite artists list, but that combination alone was just equal parts "meh" and "bleh"… Another good, more recent example would be Makoto Uno doing Vania 600's Rail Wars designs. Again, Uno's great, and it made some sense, but they just retained the very basic look of the originals, which had a distinction to them. It doesn't look like Misaki Kurehito's designs will be retaining much of their look in the upcoming Saenai Heroine no Sodate-kata, either, except in that "very basic" way. Neither of those designs should have been an ordeal to do, but feels more like a case of producers aiming to get the look down right, but missing the mark in the process. Other times, like here with Triage X, they see one popular artist's designs and think, "Hey, why not have this other popular artist do these, so they'll combine together and make something even cooler!" I think their intentions may have been good, but end results? Not so much (how much of the decision lied with the co-director is uncertain…). However unlikely, I was hoping that either Madhouse or Tetsuro Araki/WIT STUDIO would be doing Triage X when it was announced, due to HOTD and the former two's dedication to visual fidelity. We're getting something that looks like this, unfortunately, but at least the rest of the staff remains a little more promising… |
