I agree. How could this turn out to be boring ? Just play the 9,5/10 games.

Quote: | The film relies heavily on that strong art direction to carry itself, as the animation is very poor throughout. |
That was the biggest disappointment, especially for a movie. I'm only superficially familiar with the franchise but I don't know anything about the universe so it would only be worth watching for the eye candy. The art, flashy designs and cool poses are nice. But the overall lack of or poor animation was a big letdown. I could understand if they kept the animation to a minimum and saved up the budget for big actions scenes like what most productions do, but that didn't happen either. Maybe their budget was small and they spent it all on the detailed artwork instead.

for those that actually played the game , i find it was definitely enjoyable. and the storyline is pretty straightforward for those that played the game to the letter considering that it took place between 1 & 2.
also they did something that most companies dont do and that is bring the voices for the video game to the anime series which is what ADV Films did with devil may cry which had a good dub but extremely disappointing to say the least that none of the VA that did the games was there.
and it does have good animation which is to expect from madhouse. though no juicy extras was disappointing.
so yea, its definitely a must have for fans of the games, but wont bode well for those that arent and arent too keen with fanservice which have been the MO for the whole franchise to begin with.

I agree with this. After thirty minutes I stopped watching and will probably never finish it. Thank goodness for streaming I didn't have to waste any money on the media.
The thing is after 30 minutes even if I don't play the video game I should have some reason to continue watching. And this anime gave me none. I had absolutely no interest in the leading characters if you could even call them that. The greasy fat funeral director in the bar was more interesting than the overly-pneumatic female lead or overly-pseudo-cool black guy.
Waste of time.

A bloody Fate is what I wished for myself after starting this. The game are entertaining in their over the top action. If you're into that sort of thing. This movie however did not capture any of the fun aspects of the game at all IMO. It just felt like it was trying to live up to it's own hype too much. None of the aspects that made the game fun translated well to this movie. There's worse out there, at least the animation itself was nice, but there's far better too. Just stick to the game.
