Wow, I don't even know how to describe this. Was it sexy or scary or emotional or whatever. All I know is I like this weird thing.

Don't care for the music, but the color choices and overt oozing sexuality remind of G.I. Jane. God I hope more of these shorts are like this one.

Ah, my first guro anime. I guess the message is that our fetishes can destroy us?

We must have been watching two different videos. My impression was that some guy went down the rabbit hole. The animation was great, but a bit too artsy for my tastes. |

A sexy but deadly harem. If Monster Musume turned guro I imagine it would be something like this. Still erotic though. And I love the funky art and animation.

I'm certainly don't approve of erotic anime... But every now and then there is an exception that showcases something with just good enough artistic sense and stylism and thematic context that justifies its usage. This video is one of those!
What an awesome tour de force! Hopefully we'll get a blu-ray release of these shorts in North America, and here's hoping the next bunch will be just as amazing if they're releasing them in such a way that they're saving the best for last! It's nice to know Khara has been doing something productive in between the long waits for the Eva movies. |

Got the chance to see this on Thursday. Haven't been paying any attention at all to what this Japan Animator Expo is or who's involved, so assuming that it was an actual Japanese expo in a public place, I thought after hearing it mentioned that whatever anime would come of it would be fairly mainstream if artsy. Luckily when I got tipped off on this specific video, I was given enough warning ahead of time for some gore and heavy T&A. And he was right!
It was a neat experience to not only see "ME!ME!ME!", but also already start digesting what it all meant on my first viewing of it. Fetishization of the waifu, pornography, gamer escapism… it gets down and dirty with all of these subjects or variations thereof, and is (as I and many others see it) pretty damning of the self-pandering life style or attitude that consists of these aforementioned subjects, even if it panders in many ways itself to get such messages across. Finding out that the Japanese Animator Expo for which it was showcased has the producing power of Studio Khara and Hideaki Anno behind it seems to only validate these views. ME!ME!ME! was also, at a very raw and visceral level, pretty fun. It was definitely a vivid display of animator and artist talent, and the music was very fitting. I'm a bit astonished that there's no NSFW-tag or warning attached to this article. Not only is it definitely something more than a TV-MA rating on Toonami can take, it can probably get you fired if you view this at work.
When you refer to "some guy" who "went down the rabbit hole," you're referring to the Male protagonist and not the Director, right? If that's the case, then how can you get the feeling that you watched a different video? MC-kun is shown to be attacked and ravished by many girls-- even if spoiler[it's all in the guy's head, there's no question that the anime was very literal in its presentation about his being ravaged.]
Huh, I actually didn't consider that. You really think so? I thought that the spoiler[nightclub was actually inside a giant uterus. Or maybe the head of a penis? I think either would make plenty of sense, particularly since the anime's story is already in the process of approaching the "climax" by the point we reach this scene >>> http://i.imgur.com/F88WFjo.png] |

I always like watching these short anime projects to see how how much talent and creativity these small studios have when they don't have super-harsh broadcast deadlines and aren't restricted to adapting previous works like manga and light novels.
This music video seems to have been influenced by Panty & Stocking and Kill la Kill with all the boobs and crude violence everywhere, but it still keeps a dark and serious tone. It looks like the short was animated by former Gainax staff at studio khara with some help from Trigger, so it seems like I might be right. The "massproduction" clone girls are drawn in a style similar to PSG, while Hana's mask-like alien face and character design reminded me of Ragyo near the end of Kill la Kill. Not to mention the mega nightclub-stage-spaceship thingy is similar to Nonon Jakuzure's jetpack symphony stage thingy. EDIT: Whoops, doubleposted somehow Last edited by TD912 on Sat Nov 22, 2014 7:43 pm; edited 1 time in total |

This video was brilliant. I need a download of it, and the music. I love the trippiness, the colors, and the fluid animation.
I love this whole animator expo idea. Every single video so far has had its own charm and originality. the About Us section of the website talks about possible film adaptations or something similar, I'd love that for each of these amazing shorts. |

Been pondering over some aspects of this production lately. Okay, so here's a possibility I don't think I'e seen discussed much online, but would be interested in seeing discussed: might the pink-haired girl, "Hana-chan," spoiler[, actually have not existed as Shuu-chan's girlfriend? Might she, too, have been some ideal for the guy, albeit a "3D" one? I've been thinking that the Hana-chan we see the MC pose with in all those "photographs" is still an ideal, albeit a more human one that can (actually, potentially) reciprocate love. Therefore, when Shuu does "battle" with Masked Hana-chan & her army of "meme mass production units," he might actually be fighting to abandon the 2D waifu for the three dimensional "person" whom he hopes to find reciprocated love in.]
I mean, are there even photos of her in what little we see of the main character's room? Or might have I missed it in my re-watches of the video? (Also, I wonder how much more light the lyrics might shed on the "meaning" of ME!ME!ME!, considering how much the animation and varying tones of the music already accomplish.)[/i] |
