Well, it's been awhile since I've seen Digimon but I'm hoping she will play a memorable role in this upcoming show.

I remember the ending of digimon 02 made many shippers depressed ( I forgot which pairing) , although I am not crazy about that kind of stuff, I do hope they will be happier this time.

Alright, here is what I personally most interested: what kind of evolutions will they introduce this time?

What if the sequel continued after 01 and 02 never happened? I would be pleased.

Ah, yes...There's still Dragomon to deal with since Daemon was sent to the World of Darkness...

Really looking forward to this one. I've been wanting a Digimon series since Xros Wars ended, and one set after the orignal two series will be great. Always fun to watch shows that do that, like Hurricanger: Ten Years After, or the Doremi light novels.

People were upset that Sora and Yamato (Matt) got together in the end because they were used to the English dub having supported Sora and Taichi (Tai) together in the one film. Sora and Yamato and Tai, in particular, seemed to have some close interactions with each other at various points of the original series, so there's technically evidence for both potential love interests, but regardless of what the screenplay writers did and how the localization team adapted that film, the director and original writer came out to the Western audience later to say that he never intended Sora and Taichi in the first place and tried to put in more parallels between Sora and Yamato to overcome together in support of their relationship. In Adventure 02, there was a particular episode where Sora and Yamato became boyfriend/girlfriend, too, but I can't remember if they edited that concept out of the English dub or not. Either way, the evidence in the original Japanese dub version leans more toward Sora and Yamato after the second season, who eventually got married in the epilogue to the series.

It's fine to dream of such things, but don't count on it. I'm not sure what problem people have with 02 that makes them think it's so weak (it's my favorite season), but it has character and plot development that is extremely detrimental to the continued story from the Wonderswan games. Retconning 02 means retconning those games. And if you were unaware until now how important they are to the anime (all seasons, since they lead to events in season 02 and 03 directly and explain how the digital world and dimensional travel works for all future seasons), then I recommend looking them up. They're a good read if you can't play them yourself!

Dialogue aside they seemed pretty close, I never remember Mat spending any time with her at all.

If you mean the part Sora gives him her home cooking before the concert the dub changed it to make Taichi seem all jealous and getting NTR'd saying stuff like "Oh, you're here for MATT". In the original her just cheered her on and helped her get over her fear of confessing to him.

Taichi and Sora were on the same soccer team but Sora and Yamato have more in common if you ask me. They're both more responsible and mature compared to Taichi. Sora was the one who looked after Takeru when Yamato left the group near the end of the series at Yamato's request if it counts for anything.

But really all the 02 hate is pretty much western fandom exclusive. I blame the dub and the writers with the shipping wars. Digimon's dub suffered from having shippers/fanboys on the writing staff, which led to a lot of stuff being made up for no reason

Still not sure how I feel about continuing the original story. I'm not usually a fan of aging characters or time-skips in general. More often than not handle it poorly and take away or modify many of the characteristics that we like about the original, younger version.

One could say that it's a natural progression and that characters change as they get older. That may be, but it would be appreciated if they help ease fans across that transition as opposed to jumping forward by years. (Looking at you, Nanoha.)

My personal hope for the new season is that Sora moves to America to join Mimi as an exchange student and is never mentioned again. Not because I don't like her, (she's my favorite character, in fact) but so that the people still hung up on these ships will have NOTHING. In fact, send Hikari over there too. She can have her "Good morning, Big Brother" to make the imouto lovers swoon and then hop on a boat too, and Takeru will meet the perfect girl or boy or digimon or whoever that will get everyone to finally stop whining about him and Hikari. Miyako can stay, people didn't seem as up in arms about her and Ken.

No, this doesn't address the yaoi ships, but they're really their own little world anyway.

...Or maybe I should just stop reading comments on these articles, ignore the fandom, and love Digimon my own way. But I just want to have a nice conversation about a sequel to one of my favorite childhood shows that doesn't involve the whole 5 minutes of screen time devoted to hints of romance in a 104 episode kids show about fighting monsters.

I think I'll message Lara Jill Miller and ask her what she thinks of this. I asked Joshua Seth on this. I believe he said he was interested in reprising his role. I will always love Seth's 009!
