I can't believe people are going so crazy over this to boycott their releases. Jeez. I'm really happy with Seven Seas since they are brave enough to be releasing yuri manga (I'll admit it, I'm a big fan of yuri). So I'm with them no matter what (unless they mess up the translations or something on the yuri manga ). Plus when he said in one of his statements that Seven Seas is dedicated to not censoring or altering their manga, that just boosted my acceptance of them. I hate censoring or altering of manga for the US so I was happy to hear that.
But I guess that brings us to this predicament. I find it sad that the U.S. has such issues with these things that people have to go through this kind of trouble . I find nothing wrong with their decision because I agree that someone out there would get wind of this title and blow it out of proportion because of its contents. I'm not here to say whether the content is actually acceptable or not just saying that risk was too high (and it seems retailers didn't want to take the chance either). So many people in the U.S. are just so sensitive to these issues and throw a fit when sexual or violent content is produced that doesn't fall into their "O.K" standards. This fact makes me sad, especially being an anime fan, it really hurts a lot of things (Seven Seas being a good example).
Seven Seas, I'm with you.

Plus, you talk about how the Satanic Bible don't say how they don't say that they tell you to kill, kill, kill. BUT YOU NEVER READ KOJIKA.

?????
That is beyond unintelligible
Let's see, you're saying the Satanic Bible says Kill Kill Kill?
No No No.
In a nutshell, LeVey is a burned-out Christian & started his own church & wrote the Satanic Bible which is actually more humanist (worship the devil in oneself). They follow a variation of the Mosaic law of an eye for an eye & a tooth for a tooth. Followers are instructed in the Satanic Bible to warn their enemies to back off & if the enemy doesn't, they are allowed to curse them. A child, like an animal, in the pure embodiment of the natural man-Satan in the flesh having yet to learn the inhibitions society forces on them. A child sees something, it takes it.
Another interesting book is called Satan Wants You! where the author points out most of the people commiting crimes in the name of Satan are not part of an organized religion, but usually rebelling against their Christian upbringing--it they do A to worship God, doing it backwards or upside down will ring the Devil.
Not a spoiler, but not the place to discuss religion, is it?
And we're off track, aren't we?

My mother in law & 3 of my sister in laws, expert.
My then future husband saw me at a party, got my number & set up a date. I kissed him good night on the first date, expert.
His family are lip-kissers, expert. It really bugged me. Eventually the one sister in law figured it out & started kissing on the cheek. The others never did,
I said I'm wrong, you're right, Soubi is raping Ritsuka every night. Ritsuka's wearing fake ears to throw his mother off
What more do you want?
The book banned?
Contact Tokyo Pop.
Soubi isn't in a position of trust as a teacher is, you know. That's why a person in a position of trust (parent, teacher, cop) not acting trustworthy is so much worse
Everyone at ANN is a hypocrite & can't be trusted. Sorry.
You read A shouta manga. Which one?
Try Lovely Sick. Oh, yeah, I complained about it. |
Oh wow, now you're just putting words in my mouth. Did I ever said that Loveless or Negima should be pulled off the shelves? No. Just saying, if everyone has complaining that KoJika was going to be the end-all of anime/manga period, they still have some work to do since titles with similar subject matter. Doesn't matter to me since I can read Japanese or find scanlations of it online, really.
And don't hate on the information. Not my fault that you didn't know how the Japanese perceive kissing on the lips as a romantic/sexual gesture. Enculturation and all that jazz. Don't get upset that I debunked that argument.
And the shota I've read was some one-shot from Dr. Ten, which one of her non-shota titles is coming Stateside by Drama Queen.

It isn't and no one in the story The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzyumiya seems to think it is, other than Haruhi herself and we the viewers don't know what she really thinks on the subject. Everyone in the room, san Haurhi, was speachless and Mikuru was traumatized to the point of not coming to school the next day. The entire incident, while funny, is never referred back to as "the right thing to have happen" but only to show just how far Haruhi will go if she wants something. An it isn't funny, at least in my opinion, because it's sexual. It's funny because it's so extreme and over the top for any 15 year old to have done.
So should the kids have turned her in? Probably, but even in the U.S. I doubt the teens would have done so. Teenagers are like that - they often won't bring in adults when they should. So what happened isn't unheard of or even unusual. Also, the fact Haruhi got away with it is important to a bigger plot point that will come more into focus later. The incident didn't just happen in the story because they needed fanservice - it's there to set up things later in the story, as well as show that Haruhi has a really bad side to her personality at times.

OK
So we're discussing topic A so you whine about topic B which doesn't affect topic A, but you whine about it
So what you want people to do about the unfairness of life that such a worthy, pulitzer prize worthy, nobel peace prize worthy if everyone would red it it would change their lives title like Nymphet is getting cancelled while other crap that inspires child molesters everywhere is getting released in the US? It's what I don't see. What are we supposed to do about it?
WHat does crying about Negima & Loveless, particularly since they are pretty high quality writing, have to do with the price of tea in China? I'm sorry, your favorite title Nymphet being cancelled. When you get in trouble, do you narc out on others to try to reducew your punishment? Does a sibling breaking curfew somehow reduce your breaking a window? Does the fact everyone at the bar was drinking also change the fact if one of the patrons kills someone driving drunk?
Does the excuse "Eveyone else is doing it" work in your neck of the woods to get people out of trouble?
I overlooked your kiss in book 1 of Loveless because I was quickly flipping thru books looking for lips touching. IT STILL DOESN:T MEAN SOUBI HAS TAKEN RITSUKA'S VIRGINITY. If you understood Soubi's personality, you'd know he can't do squat until he's told. Like a dog, he can yap for attention, he can lick his master's face, he can howl outside his master's door for attention, but he can only really respond to otders. Do you notice in that fight Soubi tells Ritxuka to kiss him? Do you think he would have kissed Ritsuka if Ritsuka had said no? Will he turn & attack his master? Maybe, but as they keep saying, Soubi needs to be dominated. He needs to be controlled. Do you understand what that means? MAYBE he'll turn & bite his master, but everyone right now is pretty confident he's the perfect Fighter unit & can never, ever break that training.
And if you notice in Loveless, all the fighter units seem to kiss. You'll notice Ritsuka's reaction to the kiss was more shock at being kissed by someone he didn't know or even a kid not wanting to be kissed. There's no freaking about the kiss being casual or meaning something. No My brother never kissed meConsidering everyone has cat wars, they may not even be in Japan. Large parts of the author's work Earthian took place outside of Japan--in England & on the angels' homeworld. Guess what? Some Japanese do know there's a world outside of Japan.
And guess what?
I KNOW the Japanese freak out over kisses. I have 2000 volumes of manga & 2000 anime dvds in my collection. The topic has come up in many, many, many, many times. I've read characters stress for pages whether the person means the kiss or have they lived in the West & therefore are they more casual about kisses like westerners?
Drama Queen's pitching Dr Ten as extra racy, so your sample may be out of the norm. I don't think we have as much 18+ yaoi printed in the States yet. Most of it seems 16+ or even 13+
And because I'm too busy keeping up on Antique Gift Shop, Basilisk, Bastard, Bleach, Boy Princess, BTX, Tsubasa Resevoir Chronicles, XXXHolic, (X & Legal Drug if Clamp EVER finishes them), Cantarella, Case Closed, Category Freaks, Challengers, Chronicles of the Cursed Sword, Chun Rhang Yhur Jhun, Cromartie, Dark Edge (if they ever release any more...), Death Note, The Devil Does Exist, Dr Slump, Dragon Hunters, Dragon Knights, 11th Cat, Embracing Love, Excel Saga, Faeries; Landing, the Finder series, Flame of Recca. Flower of Life, From Eroica With Love, Fruits Basket, FMA, Genjo no Seiza, GetBackers, Ghost Hunt, Gravitation EX, GTO The Early Years, Hana Kimi, Heavenly Executioner Chiwoo, Hellsing, Her Majesty's Dog, Hero Heel, Immortal Rain, Innocent Bird, InuYasha, Jing King of Bandits Twilight Tales, Judas, Junjo Romantica, Kamen Tantei, Kami-Kaze, Kamui, King of Hell, Kizuna, Saint Seiya, Kurogane, La Esperanca, Let Dai, LiLing Po, Love Mode, Love Pistols, MagicalXMiracle, Mail, Night of the Beast, Now (if we ever get more...), 1001 Nights, Ouran Host Club, Pieces of a Spiral, PhD, Planet Blood, Platinum Garden, Quan, Queen's Knight, Rave Master, Rebirth, Recipe for Gertrude, Rin, Saiyuki Reload, Samurai Deeper Kyo, Satisfaction Guaranteed, Secret Chaser, Seimaden, Seraphic Feather(if we ever get any more...) Sgt Frog, Shout Out Loud, Tactics, Tarot Cafe, Tenshi Ja Nai, Threads of Time, Welcome to the NHK, Wild Adapter, Younbg Magician, Yubisaki Milk Tea, Zatch Bell, & all the yaoi everyone's releasing, I really don't have time to be looking all over the net for scans to read. Besides, I keep telling myself I'll get back to Angel Sanctuary, Fushigi Yugi, Berserk, & Rurouni Kenshin also, so I really don't think Nymphet would ever be on my radar.
I still have a bunch of anime to keep up with also.
So it's not like those of us who haven't read Nymphet don't have other things to do besides read your favorite title.
And I say many of the titles I'm reading are as good or better than Nymphet.

As a child molester, I'm genuinly appauled that people wouldn't actually bother molesting children and would stick it to this kind of crap.
Now hopefully with this filth out of the way we can work on blossoming some pedophiles into fully fledged child molesters.
So I can have some friends to hang out with on a friday night (and hang inside, if you know what I mean )

Nice one......
Anyway.....for people just joining us I'm going to make a short graph as to the discusion here:
Kodomo No Jikan canceled---> Censorship---> Child Molesting---> Freedom of speach--->Democarcy--->The Satanic Bible(how did we end up on that topic?)--->Storyline--->Porn(?)
That's kind of the conversation line we have had here. You will notice that some elements seem REALLY out of place, but that's what happenes in an internet debate. Must admot it was pretty fun to read all of it.

Negima? High quality writing? ROFLMAO. I give Loveless some of that but no, just no. And you never read KoJika to judge it, so your opinion is flawed. Zac, read it, although he was too distracted on the wrong points of it IMO. I already told you that I don't care for it really so no, it's not my fave title (Otomen is actually my fave title of the moment, thank you very much). But I did post in my previous posts that I care for the truth coming out about this title because there's a lot of misinformation going on due to a lack of people actually reading it. Hell, there are some people like me who don't read lolicon and though this attitude is blow WAY out of proportion.
And you KEEP putting things in my mouth that I never said. You keep harping that the teacher had the authority as an adult and blah, blah, but never called Soubi on it. Soubi is a 20 year old, a legal adult in Japan. He knows better too and has the responsibility to be an adult as much as Aoki-sensei does (and which Aoki-sensei does practices, he never once touched Rin outside of what is approrpiate for adult and child and admonishes her when she teases him). You're forgetting that what is Loveless is more well-known for: its shotacon-theme with Soubi and Ritsuka's relationship. Most people think of it as an anime where some guy is trying to boink a cat boy. We both is not true, but that's how a lot of people see it to be.
You can go on and spout stuff you OBVIOUSLY don't know about this title. I already gave my reasons and acted civil with you and never talk out of turn with you either. If you can't do that, you're not suited for debate at all.
And don't give that "Oh, I read so many manga, I don't have the time to sit down to read!" BS either. I'm reading TWICE the manga as you (with a full-time job and other responaibilites AND playing Final Fantasy 12 on top of that, imagine that!) and managed to read KoJika to see what was the hoopla about, because, you know, to be in a debate, you actually need to somewhat KNOW about the subject first not by faulty hearsay or that BS excuse from the SSE Prez on what was the scene that broke the camel's back.

To the ANN comandatura:
Are you guys keeping this news item on the front page out of some sadistic pleasure? Just dump it and lets go on with our lives.
It was a dumb series and one of the most idiotic marketing strategies ever ("Nymphet"!!!!, instead, how about we call it "Teacher's Worst Nightmare" put an 18+ sticker on it and shrinkwrap it, No Mess, No Fuss, No Problem). Seven Seas saw the writing on the wall, made a good business decision and wrapped it up with some lame moralization (like Vol 3 is any worse than Vol 1....RIGHT).
While it is fun to log into the front page and see the message ticker go up, the joke is getting stale (and there is nothing left of the dead horse for the maggots by now), let the 3-5 people still arguing over this title move over to some nether region of the forums.

Couldn't this be a catalyst for the end of manga as well? The yuri line they're putting out- lets say that mom or dad picks this up or find their child with it. Correct me if i'm wrong but some of the titles they are releasing are for teens no? What if mom or dad thinks that this is saying lesbian relantionships are ok (and they are) and they feel offended and get bent out of shape about it?
My problem is they'd be willing to take a risk with some titles and not others. i was reading earlier when someone suggested shrink-wrapping ...yeah thats not going to work for the simple fact of the manga rats. not even making it an 18+ title in stores would work, because many bookstores (at least in my area) never checked my age when I bought the books.
So in short: The Yaoi line has yet to cause the return of satan- the yuri line isn't out yet- and nymphet well..hopefully someone esle picks it up and honestly it wouldn't surprise me if it was Del Rey (since they ownanother "is kinda shady" title.

Yeah, that's really brave. I mean, its not like the yaoi market has already proven that people won't raise a fuss of homosexual manga, both pornographic and not.

Again, with all that yaoi out there, why are a couple of tame (as far as I know) titles from Seven Seas going to be some sort of risk?

Considering it seems as though everyone is agreeing to disagree and no one is really gaining any ground in furthering a mutual understanding, I think that would probably be best.
So far all I have seen is a lot of debate over hypocrisy and double-standards which ends up going nowhere. Is it right for this title to get so much attention given the fact that there are tons of existing manga and anime titles that have equally disturbing content? Not at all. Hell if people found out what kind of content the original Popotan had, I'm sure they'd freak. Does arguing about it really change anything? Doubt it.
Also, after reading as much of knj as I could, I believe that DeAngelis' second press release while much appreciated is hard to swallow. I don't believe that it took him until pages 129-131 in Vol3 to finally come to the revelation that he had to cancel it, but I guess he had to come up with something to say other than "oops, we goofed." I'm curious if this would have gotten published if no one noticed it. I'd be willing to bet it would have.
