Interesting that Aikatsu made it in the Top 5...
Perhaps the kids over in Japan are starting to develop an early interest for shows featuring idols?

I heard somewhere that in Japan, Anpanman is the Japanese equivalent to Barney the Dinosaur. Given the info here, it looks like they were mistaken.

Thomas the Tank Engine is a real train in Japan.

"Bullet train fans Japan recreate life-size Thomas The Tank Engine, attracting hundreds of children"

  • Young fans of Thomas The Tank Engine can now enjoy rides on real railway line on the famous blue locomotive
  • Company which built the train say they have been surprised at how popular it is with hundreds of children watching test runs
  • Thomas The Tank Engine is so popular in Japan there are already two theme parks dedicated to him

That's no surprise. Idols are role models for young girls. Quite a few girls in primary school and junior high want to be idols if what my friend who teaches in Japan is anything to go by.

Yeah, I don't see how someone could compare Anpanman to Barney outside maybe popularity. Actually, is Barney still popular?

I was talking about how I heard that Anpanman is loved by the target audience and no one else, akin to Barney, and how the poll of parents' approval appears to disprove that.

I'm not surprised about Anpanman.

I've seen a few episodes of it on YouTube and somehow I'M interested in it. Also, it sort of gave me an idea for a new franchise.

Too bad it'll never fly over there.
