That link was OK but I think my example was a bit better. |

This part of the article I'm a bit confused about. It says he is officially accused of violating child prostitution laws. How do those laws apply? Aren't there more specific laws pertaining more to this case regarding actual child molestation and sexual assault of a minor?
Based on details in this thread and my limited knowledge of the Japanese justice system putting it in terms of "time he will get" is not what matters here. Here in America criminals (and lawmakers) define penalties in terms of how much jail time you serve. In Japan is a bit different and I think this is what contributes to its relatively more crime-free status: People view penalties in terms of how it will affect your career and how likely you will be able to maintain your standard of living after you've committed a crime. |

If I wanted to, I can also pass "Feel the Magic: XY/XX" as rape. Look at 1:35 of this video: http://youtube.com/watch?v=OBipc9efaZI If you were to take it of context...Well, I wouldn't be surprised if it looked to someone like he was molesting her. Moral: Do not make assumptions about video games you haven't played. Especially if you can't understand them. The game is rated C, it doesn't have any molesting in it. Don't post things out of context to make it seem like it does. |

Oh okay, I think I get it now... I saw this one video, and I vaguely understood that when the chick raised her arm, you were supposed to give her a high-five...
But then, the game allows to be a douche and cop a feel; thus, you get some kind of specific reaction that... uhh... screws up your relationship with the idol... or something. Yeah... I guess that explains it (sort of). ... No, wait... I'm not sure... |

Things sure work different there. He'd get 15-20, no if's and's or but's about it in the US.

The official law only mentions prostitution in its name, but the law covers a wider range of crimes related to sexual contact with people younger than age 18. The full name of the current law, which was last revised in 1999, is "Law for Punishing Acts Related to Child Prostitution and Child Pornography, and for Protecting Children." |

I'm glad you linked to Dormcat's blog because I was just about to ask Dormcat to explain what they were getting at a bit better. I'm not as informed on the inner-workings of how the VA biz works in Japan so that at least explained how everyone who has been mentioned in this thread fits together (at least in brief). |

It goes to show that breaking into acting can/is the same world-wide. Poor kid. Just one question...where were her parents while this was going on? Hopefully this pervert wasn't such an egotistical bastard that he'd molest a girl while a parent was waiting nearby. |

The Arts Vision Chairman, well, if he's guilty then he should pay. I have never heard of a case like this in the voice talent business in Japan. Still, sometimes when this sort of news item appears, allegations of past incidents surface (at least in the US they would and legal suits fly ). I must say, the YouTube clips from the Idolm@ster game deserve a thread of their own. They're hilarious! I doubt the game is based on real life molestation, I guess. The character doesn't seem to advance if the player chooses to misuse his interactions. Still, the game should have had the starlets call the police when the "producer" gets grabby. Yet, the "producer" is seemingly always alone with the young idol. That's suspicious. Now, what the game makers need to do is create a similar game featuring AV recruiters! |

This sort of things happen in the show business all the time, just like government officials receiving bribery and other unlawful income; they happen all over the world, from past to future. However, why do people think "country A is more corrupted than country B?" Where is the line between bribery and corruption? Answer: the former is case-by-case, while the latter is systematic and even has standard operating procedures (SOPs). In this specific case, the blog entries by Ochiai make fans wonder if Matsuda is a repeated assaulter and the industry might have ignored the phenomenon, not to mention that both Ochiai and Horie are tokutaisei (特待生), honor students / interns who have their tuition reduced or waived. One has become the brightest star of the company, yet the other quit without a reason. Ochiai does show her joy in her blog when Mastusa was arrested and prosecuted.

Good point. But, I wasn't a 16-year-old girl trying to break into show business. dormcat wrote:
Which is exactly why I'm wondering where her parents were. Unless they were that utterly ignorant and naive of "how things work" in show business. |

Wasn't it Fatty Arbucle who had his career messed up in the 1920's or something over this? And Errol Flynn had 2 statutory rape trials, didn't he?
It's old. The Hollywood casting couch concept of evil movie exec is about as common as the actress willing to sleep her way to the top. But the fallout might be a bit dif in Japan where more seems to be hidden. Here there's a scandal & the guy might have to leave the country, then he makes a critically popular film or enough time passes & people start saying his personal life has squat to do with his talent. Wasn't that Polansky? |

Yes, it was Polansky. But he still can't/won't come back to the U.S. He'll probably be arrested the minute he steps foot off the plane. Here's the Wiki article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roman_Polansky#Indictment_on_charge_of_rape_and_other_sex_offenses |
