I wonder if this is a teaser or little hint that in the future, we'll get a new season of Haruhi.

Similarly, there was a 4+ year gap between the 10th and 11th light novels. Within that span of time, who knows how many light novels could've been written?

Considering how elaborate this is, there better be more to this than a pachinko game promotion.

You must be too young to remember pinball, else you wouldn't be asking.

More reason for them to make new anime. Anime didn't cover everything
edit: Wait..every source I can find still lists the LN as "on-going" ? Is it really over?

^from what im aware yes the last LN was infact, the last LN.
i never read the manga so not sure there but if the manga hasn't caught up to the LN's that could be why (as LN and Manga are commonly listed or grouped together). -This is just speculation anyway. I'm just sure it was/is intended to be over as of last year. (think it was last... this, i can't remember .__.)
As for a new season, i would love it, the novels provide endless content they could use for more in the anime lines.

No it isn't over. And we're not likely to get another season of Haruhi until a new novel is made so the anime can be used as promotion material for the light novel.
But that didn't stop me from hoping this whole ordeal was related to a new season and now having my heart crushed.

I will hazard a guess that those still buying the LN's couldn't care less if a new anime was made else KyoAni would have made it, but I will also guess the second season is still a bitter taste in their collective mouths, not that I give them any sympathy for it, though this latest wheez could be a toe-feeler.

Haruhi lives!
At least this shows that she is still popular enough to have some merchandising value.
I choose to be optimistic and take this as a sign of good things to come.

OK, THAT is hilarious.
And simultaneously sad.
But it's still funny.
But seriously, Kyoani, just give us S3 already. Unless you pull another stunt like Endless Eight, you have nothing to lose.
And as much as I'm looking forward to that Nagato spin-off (was that even confirmed?), I would very much like a genuine S3. From Kyoani.
