Well what do you know? Amazon actually did something relatively wise and that makes sense. Not that I expect that to become a habitual practice with them any time soon. -_-

I think what everyone's missing is there have been some occurences where an official release was announced as "bootleg" editions. Most confuse "bootleg" as pirate and label it under one definition.
The rock/pop group Train oftentimes tours the country doing a lot of clubs and singing while making recordings of those events and giving them away free to those who attend those avenues. These recordings, with professional CD cover wrappings, are traded quite heavily on Train fansites. Much can be said about DVD's and so forth. In this case, I think Amazon may have just made a mistake by mislabeling the item. |

Power to the people!
I rarely if ever buy from Amazon, usually only when other resources have been exhausted. But as with anything sold online, the buyer should always beware. My usual online source would be TRSI or AN, since they license and distribute anime themselves, they would never sell bootlegs. |

Took them bloodly long enough. I don't order DVDs from them cause they're to expensive and I ain't planning to start either. Especially not after this incident. Least it shows that if we scream loud enough, they'll cave. So whats the next bootlegged item we gotta get off their site?

I am still wondering how Amazon.com buys an illegally produced DVD? These are grownups, they are buying direct from publishers, or major distributors. Legit sources would not have pirated DVDs because they do not produce them.
Is is possible Amazon, or a buyer for them, is sourcing cheaper (copy) DVDs from overseas? |

btw, I've never bought any anime from Amazon, there are quite a lot better online shops to do it.

If you're insinuating that the box set may have been 'official'' in some other country, you're wrong. It was a release not condoned by the original creators and license holders, sold for profit they would never see. |

My question is, was there ever an "official comment"? Or even an unofficial one at that? Did anyone (including ANN) ever get any kind of response from Amazon over the uproar? Since the product was sold on the site proper and not the marketplace, means Amazon was purchasing from bootleggers directly basically. Since many of the overseas bootleggers are often associated with organized crime, how does Amazon feel about that?

I got a response back from actually (I also did receive one of those automatic answer stating that amazon cares and was having an agent look into and blah blah....) person some days after I'd had message them about the item and basically they stated they were looking into this item to see if it was officially licensed dvds. Otherwise I didn't get any back after it was pulled, I don't think were ever going to get that either.

Actually, most of the people who bought bootleg from ebay or any of those online anime store, don't even know that they are bootleg until someone point it out. Remember, anime is a foreign niche product, so not everyone is knowledgeable about anime bootleg. Also these bootleg have professional printing on them to make them look legit as possible, they are not just burned silver matted dvd in plastic case. Amazon is a huge company and they sell almost everything they get from suppliers, they don't "outsouce" dvd. It's a careless mistake that happens when you operate in many different area but some people act like they did it on purpose. I think some people are really overreacting like idiots here with their righteous outcry. There are still tons of online seller that are selling "imported" anime online here in the US. This is a bigger problem that is usually avoided for some reason. |
